The brand of Ma Chau silk used to be immensely popular in 16th century with the village’s products being exported both domestically and internationally. At that time, silk weaving could provide a generous income for the residents as thousands of households in the village practised the craft. However, during the wartime, the villagers were evacuated all over the country, and while some of them still earned their living with the craft in their new residential areas, others turned to different jobs. There were also people that returned to the village and continued to uphold their ancestors’ traditional craft. Like his friends, 48-year-old Tran Huu Phuong, Director of the Ma Chau Silk Limited liability company, started learning about silk weaving at the age of 11. When he was 19, Phuong headed to Hue city to study at the Agriculture and Forestry University, but his academic learning was interrupted when his father passed away. On March 20, 2016 in Muong Te district, Lai Chau province, construction was commenced on Pac Ma Hydropower Plant invested by Pac Ma Hydropower Joint Stock Company affiliated to Hung Hai Group. This is one of the six largest hydro power plants built by Hung Hai Group in Lai Chau province, and the fourth largest hydropower facility in the province after Lai Chau (1,200 MW), Huoi Quang (520 MW) and Ban Chat (220 MW). After more than a year of construction, the company is now adding efforts to make sure that the facility will be put into operation to generate electricity in the third quarter of 2019, thus turning local potential into a source of national development and livelihood improvement in Lai Chau province. First Toyota Concert in Buon Ma Thuot to be held
(Cinet)- In response to the 2014 Tay Nguyen National Tourism Year, Toyota Concert Tour 2014 is being organized in the Central Highlands city of Buon Ma Thuot, Dak Lak province for the first time from August 1-11. The concert features a classical and contemporary music, Western and Eastern music, with a priority on works of diversified types and colours. Beside some artists from Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra (VNSO), Japanese conductor Honna Tetsuji, cello artist Tran Thi Mo and pop star Tung Duong will participate in the event. The 2nd festival of Buon Ma Thuot Coffee will be held between December 10-14 and is expected to attract 120 enterprises setting up 400 stalls in the central Highlands province of Dac Lac. Bad weather grounds flights to Buon Ma ThuotLe Anh HCMC – Many flights to and from Buon Ma Thuot airport in the Central Highlands province of Daklak were canceled or forced to land at other airports due to a tropical low developing in the East Sea on September 12. Vietnam Airlines said it had to abort seven services from Buon Ma Thuot including four to HCMC, one to Hanoi and two to Danang due to bad weather. The national carrier diverted its VN1601 flight from Hanoi to Buon Ma Thuot for landing at Tan Son Nhat airport in HCMC. Meanwhile, bad weather grounded Vietjet’s four flights from Hanoi and two services from HCMC to Buon Ma Thuot and vice versa. Other flights were affected as well. Another low-cost airline Jetstar Pacific said its flight from HCMC to Buon Ma Thuot had to return to HCMC on September 12 due to unfavorable weather at the airport in the Central Highlands city.
