65 years ago, a flag hoisting ceremony marked Hanoi’s liberation
The historic event took place in the citadel’s Doan Mon Courtyard. At 8 a.m. that day, the People’s Army of Vietnam headed into the capital city from five of its gates, ending the nine-year occupation by France. Seven hours later, a long siren sounded from Hanoi Opera House, calling the entire city to the Flag Tower. The above picture shows the motorcade taking major-general Vuong Thua Vu, commander of the 308th Infantry Division - the first main division of the People’s Army of Vietnam, to the flag hoisting avenue. What Vingroup and Masan hope to acquire from their retail merger
After many years of investing heavily and enduring losses to acquire its dominant share of the retail market, Vingroup, Vietnam’s biggest private conglomerate, is withdrawing from the business. The merger deal that it has signed with food giant Masan Group will integrate its network of 2,600 Vinmart and Vinmart+ minimarts into a merged entity operated by the latter. Masan, on the other hand, with its core business in fast moving consumer goods (FMCG), can potentially make much better use of the retail network that Vingroup has built. And with Vingroup retaining an undisclosed stake in the new entity, its network could still be used to support the conglomerate’s core business in … [Read more...] about What Vingroup and Masan hope to acquire from their retail merger
Saigon airport’s new navigation method allows more flights per hour
The Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation (VATM) on Thursday began using the area navigation RNAV, or Area Navigation, which permits the operation of an aircraft on any desired flight path and its position to be continuously determined wherever it is rather than only along tracks between individual ground navigation aids. RNAV is enabled through the use of a navigation computer. Waypoints are loaded into the computer either manually or automatically with an integrated database. The flight crew then creates a route as a series of waypoints in accordance with the flight plan. The computer estimates the aircraft position using the fitted navigation sensors and compares the estimation to the defined route. Deviation between the estimated position and the defined path creates guidance information. The move allows the airport's air traffic control to control more flights at a time. "This is an important method to allow Tan Son Nhat to handle the traffic jam both on the ground and in the … [Read more...] about Saigon airport’s new navigation method allows more flights per hour
