All Aboard the Social Enterprise Train

March 21, 2018 by robert Leave a Comment

Viet Nam News By Brian Spence* It is little wonder that Việt Nam is attracting global attention as Asia’s next ‘tiger economy’. According to International Monetary Fund data, the country’s economy has grown at a compound annual rate of 5 per cent for more than a decade now - among the world’s fastest - and its GDP is thought to be just 11 years behind China. Poverty has plummeted and growth continues apace as Việt Nam starts to join the ranks of middle-income countries. Yet this boom brings its own issues. International grants have naturally declined as Việt Nam’s fortunes have improved and rapid development has led to unsustainable (if not downright dangerous) business practices in several quarters. As for previous ‘tigers’, pollution is becoming a real concern. As other high-growth countries have also found, tackling these problems while continuing to foster further economic growth is a … [Read more...] about All Aboard the Social Enterprise Train

The investment in the form of a public-private partnership (PPP) has been formalized in a memorandum of understanding signed between MorFund and Phuong Nam Science and Technology Institute (PNSTI), which was responsible for the project’s feasibility study. PNSTI said the investment deal was the last legal ground needed for a complete feasibility report on the project, which would be submitted to the Ministry of Transport, the prime minister and the lawmaking National Assembly later this year for approval. Construction of the high-speed rail, which would shorten travel time between Ho Chi Minh City and Can Tho to roughly 45 minutes, is expected to commence in late 2018. The project has been studied for five years by PNSTI and the Southern Transport Engineering Design … [Read more...] about Canadian fund to invest in Saigon-Mekong high-speed rail

August 5, 2013 by robert Leave a Comment

In an interview with DTiNews, the deputy director of the Institute of Tourism Development Research, Pham Trung Luong, talked about measures that could promote the tourism industry. One Vietnamese booth at an exhibition held in Berlin was blamed Our government has tried to promote and improve the Vietnam's tourism industry since 2000 but has made little progress. What's your opinion on this problem? Our promotion isn't effective because we're still doing things in an unprofessional way, so we haven't been able to give tourists what they really want. Furthermore, our promoters aren't the ones with the best understanding of the situation so they're not the right people to make these decisions. So what's the cause of those shortcomings? The tourism sector has been divided and then merged with other agencies six times. It should be thought of as a business-like sector but last time, it was merged with the Culture and Sport sectors. Our leaders must realise the … [Read more...] about Tourism industry in need of a breath of fresh air
