This year’s HCMC ICT Contest is themed ‘Journey to a Smart City’ and was launched in August 2019. Until October 31, 2019, it received 65 papers, which were carefully evaluated in November for the awards ceremony to be held in December 2019. Many of these papers are from state organizations and in the fields of digital transformation, Internet of Things, smart operation, and practical applications for citizens. Blind student receives full scholarship to RMIT University Vietnam
A young Vietnamese girl has defied her visual impairment to win a valuable scholarship to one of Ho Chi Minh City’s top international universities. Nguyen Thanh Vinh received a scholarship worth nearly VND1 billion (US$43,000) for a three-year bachelor’s degree at District 7-based RMIT University Vietnam, where all subjects are taught in English with no assistants or translations. Vinh was born without sight in Ninh Thuan Province in south-central Vietnam, a mountainous area with no schools or opportunities for the disabled. Even though she has never seen her surroundings, Vinh’s love for life is infectious. Taiwanese firm builds low-cost preschool for workers’ children in southern Vietnam
A low-cost preschool in the southern province of Dong Nai has become a trusted place for factory workers to send their children since the 2013-2014 academic year for its environmentally-friendly design and high-quality education. Last December, Nhung Bong Hoa Nho (Little Flowers) Kindergarten, established in the provincial capital of Bien Hoa by Taiwanese-invested Pouchen Vietnam Company, received a green building certificate from the Vietnam Green Building Council. The council, which is a program begun by California-based non-profit Green Cities Fund, Inc., aims to raise awareness and build capacity for the development of green buildings in Vietnam. Nhung Bong Hoa Nho applies green solutions like recycling material and water and using solar-electric systems to heat water in order to help the school save energy, as well as to educate kids on energy saving from an early age. Foreign students who run away for illegal work in South Korea will be put on a 'black list' and hardly get a chance to come back to South Korea. They will also be wanted by police nationwide and could be fined US$5,000 and face imprisonment of up to six months. On December 10, South Korea police officers were searching for 164 Vietnamese students enrolled at Incheon National University’s Korean Language School after they had not shown up in class for 15 days, Korean media reported. The students are among 1,900 Vietnamese students on a one-year Korean language training program at the university. “To come to Korea to study short-term language courses, many students have to pay millions of won to brokers in Vietnam," a spokesperson of Incheon National University was quoted by Yonhap as saying. "They believe that the salary of illegal labor in Korea may be greater, so these illegal actions were taken."
