Remittances to HCM City expected to pick up 9 percent

(Photo: tinnhanhchungkhoan.vn) HCM City (VNA) – Remittances to Ho Chi Minh City are expected to reach some 5.3 billion USD in 2019, a year-on-year surge of 9 percent, despite unfavourable global financial and monetary market, according to Deputy Director of the State Bank of Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh City branch Nguyen Hoang Minh. Minh said that Vietnamese expatriates remitted roughly 4.3 billion USD to the southern hub as of the end of November. The flow of money has played an important role in economic development as well as stability of foreign currency supply in the city, he stressed. Vietnam was expected to remain one of the top ten remittance recipients in 2019, according to the latest edition of the World Bank’s Migration and Development Brief. $3.2 billion Vung Ro refinery and petrochemical complex revoked

$3.2 billion Vung Ro Refinery and petrochemical complex The Phu Yen People’s Committee has asked the Management Board of Phu Yen Economic Zone in collaboration with the province’s Department of Planning and Investment to consider the decision to revoke the project invested by Vung Ro Petroleum Company Limited (VRP), the developer of the Vung Ro project. The Vung Ro project was granted an investment certificate in 2008, with a total investment capital sum of nearly $3.2 billion and annual capacity of eight million tonnes of crude oil. The refinery is going to be constructed on an area of 538 hectares. Of the total, 404ha will be used for the construction of the refinery, and 134ha, excluding the areas of sea encroachment, will be used for the construction of Bai Goc Seaport. Besides, this project is allowed to use 500-1,300ha of sea surface area. In 2014, VRP held the ground-breaking ceremony for the refinery. Vietnam peacekeeping force honoured

At the commendation ceremony (Photo: VNA) HCM City (VNA) – The level-two field hospital No.1 of the Vietnam People’s Army was honoured at a ceremony at Military Hospital 175 in Ho Chi Minh City on December 5, after it completed the peacekeeping mission at the UN mission in South Sudan. Addressing the ceremony, Standing Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh affirmed that participation in UN peacekeeping activities is a breakthrough step for Vietnam’s external policy, marking a change both qualitative and quantitative in multilateral cooperation in general and defence-security cooperation in particular. On behalf of the Government, Deputy PM Binh honoured the achievements made by the field hospital No.1 while performing duty at the UN peacekeeping mission in South Sudan.
