900 staff members of the HCM City Hospital for Tropical Diseases will be the first in the southern region to be injected with AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine on March 8 (Photo: VNA) HCM City (VNA) – Ho Chi Minh City's Department of Health announced on March 6 that 900 staff members of the municipal Hospital for Tropical Diseases will be the first in the southern region to be injected with AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine on March 8. The selected medical personnel are those directly contacting with, treating, or caring for people classified as risky sources of COVID-19 transmission. The hospital is chosen as it performs inoculations for people against communicable diseases on a daily basis, thus having experienced human resources for the work. ‘Ao dai’ week 2021 opens in HCM City

A special exhibition of two collections of ao dai (Vietnamese traditional dress) by renowned designers will open at the Ao dai Museum in Long Thuan Garden in district 9 on March 7. It includes ao dai owned by outstanding women working in politics, culture and arts, such as Dr Trinh Thi Hoa, former director of the HCM City History Museum, and veteran soldier Dang Hong Nhut, who have encouraged young women to study and develop their careers as well as live more independently. A visit to Hon Son island

Mekong Delta to suffer from worse drought, salt intrusion from Mid-March

Specifically, 0.4 percent salinity is expected to enter from 48 kilometers to 70 kilometers into the Mekong River, 75-90 kilometers into Vam Co River and 50-55 kilometers into Cai Lon River. Drought and salt intrusion are able to trigger abnormal changes following the operation of hydropower plants in the Mekong River and severe weather condition, high tide and to fuel southeast monsoon. As for this year’s dry season, the Mekong Delta coastal provinces of Long An, Ben Tre, Tra Vinh, Soc Trang, Bac Lieu, Ca Mau and Kien Giang are forecast to experience serious saltwater intrusion. Vietnam striving to promote sustainable marine aquaculture development Vietnam striving to promote sustainable marine aquaculture development hinh anh 1 A shrimp farming area in Phu Yen province Vietnam is to have 280,000 ha of marine aquaculture area and 10.5 million cubic metres of farming cages by 2025, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD). Annual marine aquaculture output and export turnover are expected to reach 850,000 tonnes and between 800 million and 1 billion USD, the ministry said. The MARD has taken a series of measures to promote sustainable marine aquaculture in coastal areas nationwide, towards turning the sector into a key part of the country’s maritime economy by 2045. Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien said agencies have coordinated with coastal localities to review and build a plan for aquaculture development in Vietnam to 2030 with a vision to 2045.
