The Chu Lai Open Economic Zone Authority said the plant, which received an investment licence in 2018 for the project worth US$210 million, is set to be put into operation in April of 2020. The plant has designed capacity of 39,600 tonnes of polyester and nylon yarn and spandex per year. It will also supply material for automobile supportive industries such as tyre cords, seat belt materials and airbag fabric. HCM City has invited local and foreign companies to bid on waste treatment plants that are expected to reduce pollution and contribute to a greener and more beautiful urban area. Hazardous medical and industrial waste is treated at Đông Thạnh Waste Treatment Site in HCM City’s Hóc Môn District The city discharges 8,000 tonnes to 8,500 tonnes of household waste per day, not including industrial and construction solid waste, according to the HCM City Department of Natural Resources and Environment. For the long term, waste incineration technology is the best waste treatment method as it adds a source of electric power and reduces pollution. Work on a waste-to-energy (WTE) plant, worth US$215 million, began in the outlying district of Cu Chi on October 16 as the second of its kind in HCMC, allowing the city to address both the waste problem and the demand for energy simultaneously.
