Nationwide economic census begins on March 1

The General Statistics Office of Vietnam (GSO) launched the 2021 Economic Census across the nation on March 1. Production inside a firm in Vietnam (Photo: VNA) According to GSO Deputy Director General Nguyen Trung Tien, results of the census are part of the foundation for the compilation of targets on gross domestic product (GDP), gross regional domestic product (GRDP), and many other statistical indicators. Objectives of the census are production and business enterprises and cooperatives; production and business establishments under administrative agencies and productive agencies; branches and representative offices of foreign enterprises and foreign non-governmental organisations; religious and belief establishments; and individual non-agricultural, fishery and forestry business and production establishments. Vietnam posts trade surplus of US$1.3 billion in 2-month period

The Hanoitimes - The foreign-invested sector made up 76.4% of Vietnam’s total exports in the first two months with US$37.07 billion, representing an increase of 30.5% year-on-year. Vietnam reported an estimated trade deficit of US$800 million in February, narrowing the trade surplus in the first two months of 2021 to US$1.29 billion in 2019, the General Statistics Office (GSO) has said in a monthly report. Chart: Ngoc Thuy Overall, Vietnam's trade turnover in the January-February period is likely to rise by 24.5% year-on-year to reach US$95.81 billion, of which its export value could amount to US$48.55 billion, up 23.2% year-on-year, and imports are estimated at US$47.26 billion, up 25.9%. Bilateral trade between UK and Vietnam surges thanks to UKVFTA

The Hanoitimes - The initial results of the UK-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement promise to continue creating new impetus for economic and trade cooperation between the two countries in the coming time. Cambodia adopts law on COVID-19 preventive measures

The draft law on measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and other deadly and serious infectious diseases, which consists of six chapters and 18 articles, was approved on February 28 during a Cabinet Meeting chaired by Prime Minister Hun Sen. Earlier, the country’s Health Ministry created a task force, headed by Army Commander Lieutenant General Hun Manet, to manage security and public order at quarantine centres. Meanwhile, Laos’ National Taskforce Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control is requiring all foreign citizens entering Laos to purchase COVID-19 insurance, in addition to other travel documents and requests for permission to enter the country. Non-Lao citizens wishing to enter Laos must contact their embassy concerning COVID-19 insurance, which will cover the cost of any medication prescribed in the event that the policyholder contracts the virus, as well as wearing a health tracking device. Historic Cu Chi Tunnels site seeks UNESCO World Heritage Site recognition

But the city, the country's largest, also has a great deal of historical value related to the wars of resistance against the French and Americans to offer interest to tourists as well as locals. One of the most fascinating destinations is Cu Chi guerrilla warfare tunnels, located about 70km from downtown HCM City. Built by South Vietnamese liberation forces as shelter from US and Sai Gon troops during the war, the site is known over the world, but even many locals have yet to visit the tunnels.
