Market of 3.5 billion consumers RCEP, launched in 2012, includes the 10 ASEAN members, as well as China, India, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Australia and New Zealand. Vietnam’s Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Tuan Anh said the conclusion of negotiations marks a very important milestone in the country’s process of international economic integration in particular and of all countries participating in RCEP in general, given increasing trade protectionism around the globe. According to Tran Tuan Anh, RCEP, with a market of around 3.5 billion consumers and total gross domestic product (GDP) of approximately US$49 trillion that accounts for about 39 percent of global GDP, will form the largest free trade area in the world. Member countries are to join the open market for goods and services, investment opportunities, facilitated trade and simplified customs procedures. The trade deal is expected to strongly promote the development of regional and global value chains, helping … [Read more...] about Breakthrough in RCEP negotiations on world’s largest free trade area

Apartment projects mushrooming in Hanoi
While no new major roads have been opened in Hanoi over the last few years, apartment projects, collectively comprising several thousand apartments, have proliferated in the Vietnamese capital. Hundreds of new apartment projects and high-rise buildings, both on stream and under-construction, can be found along such streets as Belt Road No. 3, Le Van Luong, Hoang Minh Giam and Nguyen Trai in Ha Dong District. At the Trung Hoa-Nhan Chinh Urban Area, currently considered the capital’s fastest-growing construction development spot, new buildings are being constructed at lightning speed and with high density. This only puts more pressure on the already overloaded traffic system surrounding the area. Just because an area already houses numerous apartment buildings does not mean no more projects are planned there, at least as it seems in Hanoi. Several major condo complexes, including the 40-story Thang Long Number 1, 35-story Ecogreen City, 27-story Vinaconex 1, and Kim Van-Kim Lu … [Read more...] about Apartment projects mushrooming in Hanoi

How can Vietnamese people manage a water supply monopoly?
Duc Hoang The most potent weapon of a consumer is to stop consuming. How do we then answer the question: "If we don't use their water, who else will provide it to us?" My family was among those troubled recently over the fact that our son's school was located just one kilometer from the burnt Rang Dong light bulb warehouse (that leaked 15-27 kilos of mercury into the air). Now we've got a new one: polluted tap water and the difficulty in getting bottled water. Since my family and I are not the only ones severely affected by this, since there are millions of us, one would expect the company responsible for the crisis to be hit hard by it too. However, the stocks of Song Da Water Investment Joint Stock Company (code: VCW) on the Unlisted Public Company Market (UPCoM) still went up on Tuesday. There was no chain reaction following a public crisis like what one would see in a movie, where a negative news about a company spreads and causes its stock to spiral … [Read more...] about How can Vietnamese people manage a water supply monopoly?
