UKVFTA to boost export of Vietnam key items

The Hanoitimes - The trade deal will open a new chapter in the Vietnam – UK relations, UK International Trade Secretary Liz Truss has said. Once coming into force, the UK – Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (UKVFTA) would serve as a major boost for a number of Vietnam’s export staples, including seafood, rice, garment, vegetables, among others, suggested the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) in a report. In 2019, Vietnam exported seafood worth US$298.2 million to the UK, or 6.7% of the latter’s total fishery imports. Without foreign tourists, Hanoi’s Old Quarter souvenir shops and hotels shut down

The Hanoitimes - Covid-19 has put catering services and fashion shops in the Old Quarter in a dire situation. Many shops in the Hanoi’s Old Quarter have closed, and renters are returning commercial properties to landlords due to sluggish sales as foreign tourists are not allowed to enter Vietnam yet. Around Hoan Kiem Lake area, many hotels have been closed and there is no sign of reopening yet. Some locations have removed the signboards, and are in the process of being transfered or returned to tenants. The situation of catering services and fashion shops is desperate. Many hotels cut room prices by 50% to 70%. A row of silk shops on Hang Gai street had to shut down. UK foreign minister seeks trade deal in Vietnam visit

The Hanoitimes - Both Vietnam and the UK are looking for a trade deal after Brexit. UK Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab is scheduled to visit Vietnam from September 29 – 30 to hold talks with his Vietnamese counterpart Pham Binh Minh, with a trade deal at the top of the agenda ahead of the ending of the transition period for Britain's exit from the European Union this year, Nikkei Asia reported. Vietnam logs no new COVID-19 infections on March 1 morning Vietnam documented zero COVID-19 infections in the past 12 hours as of 6:00 am on March 1, leaving the national tally unchanged at 2,448 patients, according to the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control. Earlier, Vietnam reported 16 COVID-19 cases at 6pm on February 28, including 12 locally infected cases in the northern province of Hai Duong, the country's largest COVID-19 hotspot, and four imported cases in the southern provinces of Tay Ninh and Dong Thap. Of the total infections, there were 1,542 domestically-transmitted cases, including 849 recorded since the latest outbreak hit the northern province of Hai Duong on January 27.
