VAMA members sold 70,952 vehicles in the first three months of 2021 (Photo: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) - The Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (VAMA) announced on April 13 that its members sold a total of 70,952 vehicles in the first quarter of 2021, a year-on-year surge of 36 percent. The figure comprised 51,126 passenger cars, up 34 percent, 18,735 commercial vehicles, up 43 percent, and 1,091 special-use vehicles, up 17 percent. March auto sales by VAMA members grew 127 percent against February to 30,935. Of these, 21,089 were passenger cars, 9,227 commercial vehicles, and 619 special-use vehicles. Sales of domestically-assembled vehicles rose 99 percent month-on-month to 70,952, while those of completely-built-up (CBU) vehicles increased 177 percent against January to 13,795. Vingroup reports acquisition, sale of multiple companies
It sold 80 percent each of MV Real Estate JSC and the MV1 Real Estate JSC to Mitsubishi Corporation and Nomura Real Estate Development of Japan, and 90 percent of S-Vin Vietnam Real Estate Trading JSC to Japanese real estate company Samty Co., Ltd. Vingroup earned profits of nearly VND16.9 trillion ($728.45 million) from the three deals. It also sold a 25 percent stake in Phu Quoc Tourism Development and Investment JSC for a profit of over VND1.4 trillion, and currently owns a 5 percent stake. The conglomerate signed a deal with the Phu Quoc Tourism Development and Investment JSC to operate hotels, golf courses and beachfront villas in Phu Quoc Island’s Bai Dai ecotourism area and Vinpearl Safari. Automobile firms report sales growth in March

Ford Vietnam’s sales in the first quarter of 2021 rose 52 per cent against the same period last year, equivalent to 5,914 vehicles delivered to customers. The company’s General Director Pham Van Dung said the automaker’s sales maintained growth thanks to leading products, particularly sport utility vehicles (SUVs) and commercial ones, despite a period of business stagnation in the domestic auto market and adverse impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. In Q1, Ford Vietnam’s sales of Everest SUVs recorded a year-on-year surge of 49 per cent, with 1,459 vehicles sold. Auto sales make recovery in Q1
Passenger vehicles and commercial vehicles were up 34 percent and 43 percent, according to the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA). Truong Hai Auto Corporation, or Thaco, which assembles several brands of cars and trucks, led the market with a 37 percent share, followed by Toyota (20.2 percent) and Mitsubishi (10.7 percent). Honda and Ford rounded off the top five. Hyundai Accent was the best-selling car in the first quarter with 4,804 units, followed by Mitsubishi Xpander (4,602) and VinFast Fadil (4,148).
