Raymond Chow, the Hong Kong film producer who brought martial arts stars such as Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan to the screen, is to be honored at the Asian Film Awards.The Asian film community will pay tribute to Chow, 83, with a lifetime achievement award on Monday at the awards gala in Hong Kong.Chow founded Golden Harvest studios in Hong Kong in 1970 and one his first films, Fists of Fury, introduced Lee to international audiences. He had lured the kung fu legend from Shaw Brothers studios, where Chow began his career.Golden Harvest was a box office leader in Hong Kong throughout the 1970s and 1980s, releasing films such as Enter the Dragon, The Man from Hong Kong and Hand of Death. Animated film producers face tough challenges
While animatedfilms produced in foreign countries have become block-buster in Vietnamand worldwide, the Vietnamese animation industry seems to be unable todevelop. One of the main points that critics continually bring up is thematter of story line. Made-in-Vietnam animationfilms have been said to be heavy on the philosophical side, with alreadysimilar characters and simple dialogue. As a result, they were out offavour. Berlin festival invites local film producers
Entries must include a résumé and a motivation letter written in English. Certificates must be sent to [email protected] by December 6. Only shortlisted profiles will be invited for interview. Participants are required to be experienced in the movie industry and posses good English communication skills. According to the German consulate general of HCMC, the trip to Berlin fest will help participants to network with national and international film experts and to hold specialist talks with counterparts. It also enables guests to obtain multifaceted insights into the subject of film and the film industry in Germany. The whole trip to Berlin will be sponsored by the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Vietnamese film producers accuse CJ Cinemas of leveraging monopoly
The matter was called to media attention after Tam Cam, arguably one of the most anticipated Vietnamese movies of the year, failed to get into CGV theatres, surprising moviegoers. At the press conference launching the movie, the company producing the movie, Vietnam Artist Agency (VAA), and the distributor, Bitexco subsidiary BHD, attributed the absence from CGV screens to unfair demands to share box office revenues made by CGV. A week after businessman Chung Minh filed a police complaint against local film producer Phuoc Sang, for appropriating VND3 billion (US$143,000) and a Mercedes car, the latter convened a press briefing on October 10 to clarify the situation. In his complaint to the Binh An Ward Police in District 2 of Ho Chi Minh City, where Phuoc Sang resides, Chung Minh accused Sang of borrowing VND3 billion (US$143,000) along with a Mercedes S350 model car with number plate 51A-127.02 and not returning either, and further lending the car to singer Le Hieu without his permission. Film star Quyen Linh, a close friend of Phuoc Sang, was also present at the press briefing. A Ho Chi Minh City based film producer, director and actor has recently been accused of duping a local businessman of VND3billion (US$143,000) and a Mercedes car. On October 5, the businessman Chung Minh told Saigon Giai Phong Newspaper that he had filed a complaint against Phuoc Sang, a HCMC based film producer at the Binh An Ward Police Station in District 2 of Ho Chi Minh City.
