Viet Nam News BUSAN — Organisers of Asia’s largest film festival have issued a rallying cry to its supporters as the event emerges from years of starring in its own political drama. The Busan International Film Festival hopes to draw a line under its role in a bitter row over the sinking of the Sewol ferry – one of South Korea’s deadliest ever disasters – which divided and traumatised the nation. "This edition of the festival is a reunion," said Lee Yong-kwan, chairman of the BIFF organising committee. "This year is about our recovery and a return of our status. It’s about expansion and reformation." Vietnamese comedies, dramas and horror films to screen this month
Viet Nam News HCM CITY – Six Vietnamese-made films are being shown in cinemas nationwide this month. Moviegoers are eager for the comeback of comic actor Thái Hòa and Vietnamese-American director Charlie Nguyễn in the comedy Chàng Vợ Của Em (My Mr. Wife). The duo were successful in such films as Để Mai Tính (Fool for Love), Tèo Em (Little Tèo), Cưới Ngay Kẻo Lỡ (Love Puzzle), and Fan Cuồng (Fanatic). Chàng Vợ Của Em is adapted from the English novel Busy Woman Seeks Wife by Annie Sanders, featuring the love story of a homely man and a successful woman. In an interview with local media, Charlie said it was the first time he had adapted a film from a book, which was set in the UK. Vietnamese film honored at Top Shorts festival
Vietnamese film ‘Thu Thuy – Mosaic Dreams’, directed by Nguyen Nghiem Nhan, has won two awards at the Top Shorts – Online Film Festival for April. The documentary was voted as the best trailer, meanwhile, painter Nguyen Thu Thuy, who is the main character in the film, was honored with the ‘Inspiring Woman in a film’ award. The film features the design ideas and images of Vietnamese and international artists, who have contributed to the Ceramic Road along the Red River dyke in Hanoi, the magnificent scene of the inauguration ceremony of the Ceramic Road and the event held for receiving the Guinness record for the Ceramic Road. Luu Duc Anh - a piano talent Luu Duc Anh started learning to play the piano at a young age at the Vietnam National Academy of Music (VNAM). After finishing an intermediate course at the Vietnam Music Academy, Duc Anh received his university degree and a master’s degree with a high distinction at the Royal Conservatory of Liège – Belgium. He won the first prize at the Leopold Godowsky International Piano Contest in Poland in 2014, and the first prize at the Andrée Charlier contest in Belgium in 2015. Notably, in 2017, he won the first prize at the 6th International Music Competition in Stockholm, Sweden, in May and the special prize at the Festival et Concours international de Piano à Collioure in France, in June. For the festival in France, Duc Anh competed against over 100 candidates who were invited to perform.
