Former deputy PM implicated in steel company project violations
The party committee of the Vietnam Steel Corporation (VNSTEEL) was irresponsible and lacked supervision in its leadership, which led to the firm committing serious violations in a project to expand production by the Thai Nguyen Iron and Steel Joint Stock Company or TISCO (the TISCO II project). The violations caused "very serious consequences" and "seriously damaged the financial position and properties of the state," the Party Central Inspection Committee said Monday. The state currently owns nearly 94 percent of VNSTEEL, while VNSTEEL holds a 65 percent stake in TISCO. Archaeologists discover prehistoric relics inside northern Vietnam caves
Members of the Vietnam Archaeological Institute and the Bac Kan Museum have found that many places in the province’s Ba Be District have traces of human presence dating back 8,000-9,000 years. Trinh Nang Chung, head of the research team, said the overall study has determined that the relics are from the Hoa Binh Culture of the New Stone Age (Neolithic Era). In Puong Cave, a part of the Ba Be National Park, the team dug and explored a five-meter-square lake where they found vestiges of two old kitchens. Stone tools like short axes, rough cutting tools and oval-shaped tools were crafted from pebbles found in rivers and streams, bearing characteristics of the Hoa Binh Culture, archaeologists say. The tools were crafted with rough, rudimentary techniques. The oval-shaped tools in particular and the short axes show adjustments … [Read more...] about Archaeologists discover prehistoric relics inside northern Vietnam caves

Insiders have recommended Vietnam pay attention to developing weaving and other production activities supporting the textile-garment sector. (Photo for illustration) Based on these figures, the Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association (VITAS) believes the export target of USD 40 billion for 2019 is achievable, thanks in part to FTAs, including the one with the EU – the second biggest market for Vietnamese textile and garment products. VITAS Chairman Vu Duc Giang said the EVFTA, signed in Hanoi on June 30, promises apparel export potential of more than USD 100 billion annually. Textiles and garments shipped to the EU are currently subject to export tariffs of 9.6 percent, but when the EVFTA takes effect, the rate will be gradually … [Read more...] about Apparel sector urged to develop supporting industry to optimize EVFTA
