29 workers hospitalized in Ha Nam due to food poisoning At 9am on August 17, the polyclinic in the northern province of Ha Nam admitted 25 workers who had reported suffering from the symptoms of food poisoning such as bellyache, headache, dizziness, nausea and diarrhea. Doctor Nguyen Trong Khoa from the Emergency Department said the department had received an additional four patients with the same symptoms at 11am. The patients were sent for treatment at the infectious, digestive and respiratory departments with stable health conditions. All of these patients are workers at KMW Co, Ltd in Dong Van I Industrial Park, Duy Tien district in Ha Nam province. Nguyen Thi Tam, 48, a worker of KMW Co, Ltd said at 6pm on August 16, she went to the company’s canteen to have dinner and then returned to work. Second Ngoc Linh ginseng festival opens in Quang Nam The second Ngoc Linh ginseng festival began in the mountainous district of Nam Tra My, the central province of Quang Nam on August 1. The festival featured a procession of Ngoc Linh ginseng symbol, a fair showcasing ginseng and signature farm produce from local mountainous districts, a photo exhibition on Ngoc Linh ginseng and music performances. Ngoc Linh ginseng is a rare medicine containing 52 sanopin compounds helpful to health. As many as 779 households in Tra Linh, Tra Nam and Tra Cang communes are growing the ginseng in forests on an area of over 932ha. In June 2017, Ngoc Linh ginseng was named in the list of national products by the Prime Minister. Int’l news channel France 24 expands presence in Việt Nam
Viet Nam News HÀ NỘI — International news channel France 24 has strengthened its presence in Việt Nam, after gaining new distribution agreements with five operators in Việt Nam. Thanks to these agreements with VTVCab, Viettel, HTV-TMS, Clip TV and K+, the channel has expanded the broadcast of France 24 in English across the country considerably, reaching an additional 2.2 million households. Since November 2016 the channel has been available through FPT Telecom and the VNPT Media Corporation. The channel is now available in 3.75 million households in Việt Nam, representing some 27 per cent of Vietnamese households equipped with a television set. To celebrate its expansion, the channel will broadcast a special programme about Viet Nam worldwide today. France 24, a TV news broadcaster based in Paris, has recently signed a distribution agreement with five new operators in Vietnam to reach more audiences after nearly two years in the country. After receiving its editing license in September 2016, France 24 started with the broadcast on the offers of FPT Telecom and VNPT Media Corporation in November that year. To strengthen its presence in the country, the channel has recently inked deals with VTVCab, Viettel, HTV-TMS, Clip TV and K+, making it available to 2.2 million additional families, bringing the total audience to 3.75 million Vietnamese families, representing nearly 30 percent of the Vietnamese houses equipped with a television set. Fire threat stalks Bình Dương wood workshops Many woodwork plants in Bình Dương Province face a high risk of fire since they lack proper prevention equipment. —Photo: thanhnien.vn With the year just three months old there have already been fires at many wood processing workshops in Bình Dương Province, which have caused injuries to people and damaged properties. Recently there have been several fires in Tân Uyên town that caused serious damage with thousand of square metres of workshops burnt down and several businesses going bankrupt as a result. In February a fire destroyed a 1000sq.m facility belonging to Mỹ Nghệ wood processing workshop in Thuận An town. The province has more than 600 woodwork facilities, but only 10 per cent of them have effective fire prevention equipment. Green trees neglected in Ho Chi Minh CityWhile some of the city’s trees have become common dumping grounds for local garbage, others are suffocating from cement poured over their roots.According to the observation of Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper reporters, trees along D2 Street in Binh Thanh District have had their roots buried under a layer of cement, making it difficult for the plants to be taken care of or watered.“They are still growing just fine.
