The country’s trade turnover during January-February topped some US$95.81 billion, a year-on-year surge of 25.4%. Of the total, exports amounted to US$48.55 billion, a yearly hike of 23.2%, while imports were estimated at US$47.26 billion, or 25.9% higher than the same time last year. Foreign-invested companies accounted for 76.4%, or US$37.07 billion, of Vietnam’s total export turnover. Meanwhile, the domestic sector shipped abroad US$11.48 billion worth of products. CPI in February highest in 8 years
This is the highest February CPI growth recorded in the last eight years. However, the index in the first two months decreased 0.14% year-on-year. Compared to the previous month, an upturn was seen in the prices of ten out of 11 main groups of goods and services, with housing and construction materials taking the lead (4%). It was followed by food and catering services (1.61%); transport (1.55%); drinking and tobacco (0.9%); garment and textile, headwear and footwear (0.25%). The price of education services remained stable compared to the previous month. The GSO’s Price Statistics Department explained that the CPI in February saw a strong rise due to the higher demand for food and foodstuffs for the Lunar New Year (Tet) festival. Over 8,000 firms newly established in February
Such enterprises are expected to hire about nearly 57,000 workers, down 22.1% compared with the same period in 2020. The first two months of 2021 saw the new establishment of over 18,000 firms, down 4% year on year, with a total number of registered workers of 173,000. The number of enterprises resuming operations was 11,033 (down 7.6%). Two tourists drown in Mui Ne beach
Two tourists drowned while bathing at a beach in Mui Ne Ward in the southern province of Binh Thuan. A beach in Mui Ne The Binh Thuan Provincial Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control and Search and Rescue announced on February 28 that two Vietnamese tourists from Ho Chi Minh City have died after being washed away by strong wind and high waves at a local beach. According to the committee, a group of four tourists travelled from Ho Chi Minh City to Mui Ne on February 27. They came to bath at Ganh Tourist Site at 5.30pm. Two of them were washed away due to high waves. Two others called the rescue forces who were able to find and bring one of the missings ashore. However, the 29-year-old man died on the way to hospital. The body of the second tourist who was a 30-year-old woman was found later that night.
