Dong Nai Bridge toll station causes traffic chaosLe Anh By Le Anh - The Saigon Times Daily HCMC – Buses, container trucks and other vehicles got stuck in lines of around one kilometer on New Dong Nai Bridge and nearby areas on April 8 when the toll station started operations. Vehicles moved inch by inch for toll payment before leaving the tollgate for localities in the southeastern and central regions. Congestion worsened in peak hours when many people went to and returned from work. Le Hong Son, general director of Dong Nai Bridge Construction Investment Joint Stock Company in charge of toll collection, said as on April 8 was the first day of toll collection for New Dong Nai Bridge, both collectors and drivers were unfamiliar with payment procedures. In addition, many drivers parked trucks on the road to buy monthly and quarterly tickets, causing traffic jams. Dong Nai lures over US$62 million of FDI in January
According to the Department of Planning and Investment, among the projects, four are new, with combined investment of US$22.7 million. Meanwhile, US$39.5 million is injected into three underway projects. The projects are in the support industry and friendly to the environment, and apply high technology. Additional 20km of elephant protection fence in Dong Nai proposed
A wild elephant seen in Dinh Quan district (Source: VNA) Dong Nai (VNA) – Residents in Vinh Cuu and Dinh Quan districts, the southern province of Dong Nai, have proposed local authority construct additional 20 kilometres of electric fence to prevent wild elephants from wandering into residential areas. Earlier, a 50km-long and 2.2m-high fence was set up along Vinh Cuu district’s Ma Da and Phu Ly communes and Dinh Quan district’s Thanh Son commune. The fence use solar energy at low voltage of 4.5-14 kV. Electricity is regularly switched on and off every one third of a second, which helps keep the elephants at bay while not inflicting harm on them. Along the fence, there are many gates for local residents to pass through. Dong Nai’s export turnover enjoys surge in January
Of the figure, State-owned enterprises and non-State firms US$18.8 million and US$149.5 million, respectively, while foreign-invested firms created US$1.1 billion. Dong Nai is now home to 30 industrial parks, the most in Vietnam. Many of them have no vacancies. Last year, the province aimed to attract US$1 billion worth of FDI but it had exceeded its target by 25%. Disbursement reached a record high of US$1.1 billion, 88% of the registered capital.Woosung Vietnam, a Korean animal feeds processor, chose Bau Xeo Industrial Park in Trang Bom District for investment. Recently it invested an additional US$2 million, raising its total investment in Dong Nai to US$18.6 million. Dong Nai leads in trade surplus
The country had a trade surplus of US$2.7 billion last year equal to 2016. Last year Dong Nai’s export value reached US$17 billion, up 11.8% against 2016. The retail and service revenue was VND150 trillion (US$6.6 billion), up 12.3% year-on-year. The province has more than 3,500 firms involved in import-export activities. Duong Minh Dung, director of the province’s Industry and Trade Department, said that export markets were stable and had expanded. This increased the province’s index of industrial production (IIP) by 8.6% last year, he said. The province’s exports to traditional and large markets like the US, Japan, China and the Republic of Korea rose significantly in the first months of 2017, he said, adding that export growth had been maintained as many firms had export orders until early 2018.
