The 29-ton "Daeseong" boat sank in waters about 76 km west of Chagwi islet, near the country's southern resort island of Jeju, on November 19 after being engulfed by a fire. Six South Korean and six Vietnamese sailors were aboard the boat. One 60-year-old South Korean sailor was found and taken to a hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead. On Sunday, two bodies were retrieved some 44 meters and 50 meters under the sea near the sunken boat, according to the Vietnam Labor Management Board in South Korea. After the DNA tests, the two bodies were confirmed as those of Vietnamese sailors Nguyen Van Cong and Nguyen Tien Ninh, both aged 32. The high production costs, taxes and fees all make automobile prices in Vietnam much higher than in other countries in the region. The Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) has proposed raising luxury tax on some car models with fewer than nine seats. The General Department of Customs (GDC) reported that 96,000 cars had been imported to Vietnam by the end of August, worth $2.1 billion, which represented a 229 percent increase in quantity and 205.6 percent in value in comparison with the same period last year. Of these, the imports from Thailand and Indonesia accounted for more than 70 percent of total imports. Vietnam’s domestically made output is far below that of Thailand and Indonesia, 200,000 products a year vs 2 million and 1.3 million products, respectively. Vietnam also has a lower localization ratio than the two countries, 20 percent vs 60-80 percent and 45-70 percent, respectively. A military officer in the north-central Vietnamese province of Quang Tri has been taken into custody for tying up his wife and torturing her to death after a phone call she received from another man sent him into a jealous rage. Police in Khe Sanh Town, Huong Hoa District confirmed the arrest of local military officer Ho Van Chuong, 40, on Wednesday afternoon for the death of his wife, 30-year-old Ho Thi My L.. L. was first brought to the hospital on Wednesday morning with multiple wounds across her body, but doctors confirmed she had already died before her arrival.
