Vietnamese Ambassador to Spain Ngo Tien Dung (centre) speaks at the auction of photos on the ocassion of the 128th birth anniversary of late President Ho Chi Minh On May 19, the Vietnamese Embassy in Spain exhibited and auctioned 20 artistic photos to raise funds for disadvantaged children in Vietnam. The event, organised in coordination with photographer Tran Viet Ha and jewellery and auction company DURAN, attracted 150 participants, including many foreigners and representatives of the diplomatic corps in Madrid. Because there was a rise of visitors to the mausoleum compared to normal days, the management board had coordinated with forces in the Ba Dinh Historical-Cultural Relic Complex, and relevant agencies in Hanoi to provide good services to domestic and foreign visitors. In May Day, the management board served drinking water and bread gratis to all visitors. A tour down to the second tunnel of the Ho Chi Minh City metro system, the longest underground passage in Vietnam, provides awe of its technical aspect and working environment. This underground route, stretching from Ba Son Terminal to the Municipal Theater Terminal in District 1, Ho Chi Minh City, began to be constructed on January 26 after the first tunnel came into existence in October last year, and is planned to be completed in June. A descent down several steep flights of stairs took a visitor to the building scene more than ten meters below the ground. The tunnel is spacious, closely fitted with prefabricated slabs of concrete and muffled sounds of purring machines from the nearby parallel subterranean passage in the making. Engineers were taking copious notes of the site operation while concrete blocks were being carried from the entrance to the spot of a Japanese-produced tunnel boring machine (TBM). Book streets learn from HCM City
Open space in HCM City’s Book Street lures people of all ages.(Source: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) - There is a huge difference between the milling crowds in Ho Chi Minh City’s Book Street and the lack of people in the Hanoi equivalent in a short street simply called December 19. HCM City has just commemorated the second anniversary of its Book Street in Nguyen Van Binh Street by selling a total of 1.2 million books for a total of 67 million VND in two years. More than four million people flocked to the locale in that period. Statistics from publishers with stores in the street say that in 2016 about 500,000 books were sold for the whole year. Last year that jumped to 746,000 books.
