Viet Nam News HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam’s index of industrial production (IIP) scored a growth of 10.9 per cent in the first seven months of this year, up 7.1 per cent against the same period last year, the General Statistics Office announced. The country’s industrial production has maintained high growth since the start of the year, with a rise of 11.6 per cent in the first quarter and 10.5 per cent in the first half. The primary processing and manufacturing sector, which accounts for three-fourths of the whole industry, recorded a strong expansion of 13.1 per cent, contributing 9.9 percentage points to the industry’s growth. PM asks for more effort to promote efficiency of single window mechanisms
Overview of the conference (Photo: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has asked the Ministry of Finance to submit a draft action plan on the promotion of ASEAN Single Window (ASW), National Single Window (NSW), and trade facilitation by the end of August, and a draft decree on the work by the end of September this year. Addressing a national conference on promoting ASW, NSW, and trade facilitation in Hanoi on July 24, the PM stressed the need to continue building a better business environment for all economic sectors with an aim to enter the leading group of the ASEAN and meet the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development’s (OECD) standards. According to the Ministry of Finance, 11 ministries and agencies have connected to and carried out 53 administrative procedures via the National Single Window. Especially, all the customs procedures of the Ministry of Finance are now processed through the National Single Window and up to 99.65% businesses joined e-procedures at all customs offices across the country. Regarding the ASEAN Single Window, Viet Nam officially joined the mechanism since January 1,2018 and have exchanged 42,901 certificates of origin with four ASEAN member countries, namely Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand. The two single windows have given a strong boost to administration reform as they have helped cut costs and customs clearance time for businesses. However, the number of e-procedures still remain modest compared to the Government’s preset target of 143 procedures by the end of 2018. Flight JD421 from the eastern Chinese city of Hangzhou to Nha Trang on Vietnam’s coast turned back one hour into the journey on Tuesday afternoon, the official Xinhua news agency said. Children in the US are drawing more women scientists than in previous decades, according to a new study. The Draw A Scientist Test has been used in schools around the world -- Photo: VASILIA CHRISTIDOU The "Draw A Scientist" test has been administered by sociologists in various studies since the 1960s. Researchers at Northwestern University, US, analysed five decades of the test. When asked to draw a scientist, less than one per cent of children in the 1960s and 1970s drew a woman. This rose to 28% between the 1980s and present day. However, children are still far more likely to draw a traditionally male figure when asked to depict a scientist. Japan fire kills 11 at home for elderly people

Viet Nam to connect to ASEAN Single Window
Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue asked ministries and sectors to work harder to officially connect Viet Nam with the ASEAN Single Window mechanism in 2018.He made the request at the third meeting of the National Steering Committee for the ASEAN Single Window, National Single Window and trade facilitation in Ha Noi on Tuesday.The committee’s standing agency reported that as of December 15, 2017, 11 ministries and sectors had implemented 47 procedures of the National Single Window mechanism, up eight procedures from 2016, and handled more than 790,700 dossiers submitted by some 19,980 businesses.
