ZURICH -- Earth had its quietest period in decades during 2020 as the COVID-19 pandemic significantly reduced human activity and its impact on the planet’s crust, according to scientists working on a global study. An international group of seismologists from 33 countries measured a drop of up to 50% in so-called ambient noise generated by humans travelling and factories humming after lockdowns came into force around the world. The team, which included experts from the Swiss Seismological Service at ETH Zurich, a university, measured lower noise levels at 185 of the 268 seismic stations analysed around the world. High-decibel urban areas -- such as Guangzhou, New Delhi, Cairo and Istanbul -- topped the list of cities where hearing was most degraded, researchers reported. Likewise, cities least afflicted by noise pollution -- including Zurich, Vienna, Oslo and Munich -- registered the lowest levels of decline in hearing. The brand new aircraft model Airbus A321NEO ACF (also known as Airbus Cabin Flex) with number VN-A222 departing from Hamburg, Germany, landed at Noi Bai International Airport, Hanoi, at 6 a.m. on February 7, officially joining Bamboo Airways’s fleet. Airbus A321NEO ACF is the first narrow-body aircraft to join Bamboo Airways’s fleet in 2021, following the Embraer modern jet that did so in January 2021. With the addition of A321NEO ACF aircraft, Bamboo Airways will be operating A320/A321NEO fleet of 10 aircraft, together with wide-body Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft and regional jet Embraer 190, 195. Police in different districts in the north-central province of Ha Tinh arrested a total of 58 people for setting off prohibited types of fireworks on Lunar New Year’s Eve on Thursday. Forty-one arrestees in 55 detected cases come from Huong Son District. The confiscated items include two 36-piece boxes of fireworks, two nine-piece boxes of fireworks, 169 ball-shaped firecrackers, seven buzz firecrackers, one handmade firecracker, and 20 firework shells of all kinds. In Nghi Xuan District, 12 people were detained for setting off illegal fireworks. In Vu Quang District, police officers apprehended five people for using prohibited fireworks, seizing five 36-piece boxes of fireworks. The majority of the violators are teenagers, according to local police.
