Tran Duc Ngoc received 10 months jail term and Dinh Tien Cong seven months on charges of theft, while Nguyen Van Duc received a suspended sentence for storing or buying illegally obtained property, according to Duc Tho District People’s Court. On November 10 last year, Ngoc and Cong stole nine dogs from Ha Tinh’s Duc Tho District and the neighboring Nghe An Province’s Nam Dan District using tazers. They then sold these dogs to a restaurant in Duc Tho for VND60,000-70,000 ($2.62-3.05) per kilogram. The culprits were seized the next day while trying to sell six live dogs weighing a combined 80 kilograms. Cong and Ngoc spent money from selling dogs on drugs. Sơn Trà District in Đà Nẵng has launched a conservation project on the protection of monkey and primates in the Sơn Trà Nature Reserve. — Photo courtesy of Trần Hữu Vỹ ĐÀ NẴNG — Authorities of Sơn Trà District, in co-operation with the Centre of Biodiversity Conservation and GreenViet, have started researching the protection of the rhesus macaque monkey to drive troupes of monkeys back to the Sơn Trà Nature Reserve in the central city of Đà Nẵng. Director of GreenViet, Trần Hữu Vỹ, said the research, which began last December, has been tracking the habitat and population of the monkeys as well as food chains to limit risks of conflict with human activities. A press conference to launch the pageant is now set to get underway in March. Following this, the competition’s initial qualifying rounds are scheduled to take place in April before the final round is held in the fourth quarter of the year. The beauty contest is to be organised by Sen Vang Entertainment Company and its format will follow that of the Miss World pageant.
