(Photo: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) – The Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CP TPP) was officially inked at a ceremony chaired by Chilean President Micelle Bachelet in Santiago de Chile on March 8. Trade ministers of 11 countries participating in the trade pact, namely Australia, Brunei, Canada, Malaysia, Mexico, Japan, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore and Vietnam, attended the event. Vietnam was represented by Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Tuan Anh. The ambitious deal came after the US pulled out the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement last year. The content of CP TPP was basically unchanged from the original TPP with 8,000 pages, except for the suspended implementation of 22 provisions mainly related to intellectual property. World Bank chief economist resigns amid Chile uproar
The World Bank's chief economist resigned on Wednesday amid a scandal that erupted when he raised questions about how the institution was ranking countries -- especially Chile -- in a key report. World Bank President Jim Kim announced that Paul Romer was stepping down immediately from the post he had held since October 2016, but did not specify the reason for his exit. In his only reference to the recent dispute -- which prompted Chile to demand an investigation -- Kim said, "I appreciated Paul's frankness and honesty, and I know he regrets the circumstances of his departure." The shark fins found on the roof of a Trade Office building inside the Embassy of Vietnam in Chile were bought at a local market, according to the embassy. The photo published by El Mostrador Newspaper which was said to have been taken on the roof of a Trade Office building inside the Embassy of Vietnam in Chile The Embassy of Vietnam in Chile on Tuesday told the media that a relative of staff at the embassy bought the shark fins at a market in Santiago de Chile for his family use. "We have reported the issue to the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs following minister Tran Tuan Anh's request on January 22," the embassy said. Photos appear to show over 100 fins on the roof of the embassy, and locals have been complaining that something smells fishy. Vietnamese ministries are scrambling to clarify a controversial report that claims officials in Chile have been drying shark fins on the roof of the Vietnamese embassy. The Ministry of Industry and Trade has asked the Foreign Ministry to verify the information and cooperate with Chilean government agencies to deal with the matter in accordance with local laws. Chile passed a nationwide ban on shark finning in 2011. Tran Tuan Anh from the trade ministry has also ordered the Vietnam Commerce Office in Chile to explain images of shark fins on the roof of its office at the embassy. Photos show shark fins on roof of Vietnam’s embassy in Chile: media
Shark fins have been discovered on the roof of a Trade Office building inside the Embassy of Vietnam in Chile, according to photos published by Chilean online newspaper El Mostrador on Friday. El Mostrador reported that neighbors of the Vietnamese embassy, located in Providencia in Chile’s Santiago Province, had smelled a foul odor coming from the diplomatic residence. The fins apparently were first deposited on the roof of the Trade Office building on January 13, according to the Chilean newspaper, citing accounts from neighbors. The neighbors said that first only a small number the fins were deposited on the roof on January 13, over the next five days, more were added until there were more than a hundred shark fins there, El Mostrador reported.
