Freelancers in Việt Nam face chances and challenges

January 31, 2019 by vietnamnews Leave a Comment

Viet Nam News More and more Vietnamese people are choosing to work freelance. The road, however, is not as smooth as it seems, according to insiders, Khoa Thư reports. HÀ NỘI – As the wind started howling, Bùi Văn Dương pushed himself out into the thick curtain of pouring rain. Having worked as a freelance driver for Grab for almost two years, the 30-year-old man knew for sure that he could not make any more cancellations that day. The ride-sharing platform is now understood differently in Việt Nam. Instead of offering lifts in your free-time for extra cash, many consider Grab driving a full-time job, creating a workforce of freelancers in the ride-hailing industry as other applications like Go-Việt, Vato or Be fight for market share. “To me, freedom was this job’s selling point,” Dương recalled. The motivation pushed him to switch from a normal employee to a Grabbike driver. “However, it … [Read more...] about Freelancers in Việt Nam face chances and challenges

Harnessing automation requires preparation for work disruption

September 8, 2018 by bizhub Leave a Comment

A world in which robots fully take work over from humans may seem scary for developing economies, but on-going automation is bringing substantial benefits to businesses and society. People worldwide are talking about the Fourth Industrial Revolution – or Industry 4.0 – and what economic and societal impacts it will introduce. But what is Industry 4.0? Industry 4.0, a concept first put forth by Klaus Schwab, the founder and executive chairman of the World Economic Forum (WEF) at the Davos economic summit in 2016, is characterised by development in a range of new technologies such as genetic engineering, artificial intelligence, robotics, nanotechnology and biotechnology. Like previous industrial revolutions, which introduced advancements in mechanisation and the steam engine, the expansion of electricity, steel and oil, as well as the advents of the internet and green energy, recent developments in robotics, artificial intelligence (AI) and internet of things offer great … [Read more...] about Harnessing automation requires preparation for work disruption
