Hùng Kings Festival 2021 to exclude festivities

Visitors to the Hùng Temple Relic are asked to wear masks and keep their distance from others. — VNA/VNS Photo Trung Kiên HÀ NỘI — The Hùng Kings Festival, which pays tribute to the founders and first kings of the nation, will be held similarly to last year, with ceremonial activities but no festivities. The plans for the national major festival were decided at a meeting of the People's Committee of the northern province of Phú Thọ where it is held annually. The ceremonies will be conducted with the death anniversary of the great father of the nation Lạc Long Quân and the incense offering to commemorate great mother of the nation Âu Cơ on April 17 and incense offering ceremony to commemorate the Hùng Kings and the flower offering ceremony on April 21. Extreme cold spell kills over 200 cattle in northern Vietnam

Ta Cong Huy, head of Lao Cai province’s Steering Committee on Disaster Prevention and Rescue, described how heavy snow spread to Sa Pa and Bat Xat districts on January 11. A thick layer of snow between 10cm and 20cm rapidly developed and badly impacted livestock breeding. By January 11, approximately 93 hectares of flower and vegetable plantation had been covered in snow, leading to 1,050 pots of orchid flowers being destroyed and 45 buffaloes killed in Lao Cai province. In total the cold weather caused losses in excess of VND2 billion, and the figure is set to increase as the extreme cold spell is forecast to continue over the coming days, Huy noted. Seven batches of COVID-19 vaccines set to arrive in Vietnam

The initial batch of 117,000 COVID-19 vaccines from AstraZeneca arrived in the country on February 24. They are to be prioritised specifically for those on the frontline of the fight against the pandemic, including medical workers, doctors, nurses, contact tracers, and officials on COVID-19 prevention and control committees. The second batch, expected to arrive within the first half of this year, will be made up of 1.5 million additional doses, of which 1.2 million will be provided by COVAX, with the rest made up of those by AstraZeneca. These doses will also be prioritised for those on the frontline of the fight against the pandemic, with the addition of diplomatic personnel, customs officers, immigration officers, and soldiers. The third batch is set to arrive within the second quarter and will include 8.2 million additional doses from AstraZeneca. Hanoi to provide free health check-ups for all local residents

The Hanoitimes - The goal of periodic health check-ups at least once a year for all Hanoi’s residents has been included in the document of the municipal Party Congress. Hanoians will get free health check-ups at least once a year, starting from 2021, the municipal Party Chief Vuong Dinh Hue said on February 25 while visiting Thanh Nhan Hospital on the occasion of Vietnamese Doctors' Day (February 27).
