(Photo: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) – The 16th Vietnam Poetry Day officially opened at Van Mieu - Quoc Tu Giam (Temple of Literature) in Hanoi on March 2. Chairman of the Vietnam Writers’ Association Huu Thinh said this year’s poetry day coincides with the 70th anniversary of the birth of famous poem “Nguyen Tieu” (the 15th day of the first lunar month) written by late President Ho Chi Minh. The organising board of the event is working to turn the Poetry Day into a festival for literature in general, he said. Book street set to open in HCM City for Tet holiday
A 3D scene of what the book street festival will look like in Ho Chi Minh City. During a recent press conference announcing details of the event, Tu Luong, Vice Director of the municipal Department of Information and Communications, said the book festival serves as a popular destination for many local people and foreign friends to enjoy. Guests are able to visit the occasion during the biggest and most important annual festival in Vietnam, which is set to get underway next month. The festival will be divided into three parts depending on genre, with children books to be put on display on Mac Thi Buoi street. The main area on Nguyen Hue street will feature a range of genres, whilst a specialized area for science, technology, economics, and culture, in addition to a coffee area, will be arranged on Ngo Duc Ke street. Consumer credit: risks loom large
Consumer credit has grown by five times in the last five years, according to the State Bank of Vietnam. The Financial Times newspaper noted that Vietnam’s consumer lending field remains ‘young’. Vietnam has great potential to develop the field thanks to the young population (70 percent of people are 15-64 years old) and the high economic growth rate (over 6 percent). It's easy to access consumer loans In late 2012, total consumer loans were VND230 trillion, accounting for 8 percent of total outstanding loans of the economy. By late 2017, the figure had reached VND1,100 trillion, or 4.8 times higher than 2012, accounting for 18 percent of total outstanding loans. As of December 31, 2018, the total assets of finance and finance leasing companies had reached VND167.822 trillion, up by 18.27 percent over the end of 2017, while their chartered capital had increased by 17.2 percent and regulatory capital by 39.4 percent. (Source: VNA) Hung Yen (VNA) – A ceremony was held in Giai Pham commune, Yen My district, the Red River Delta province of Hung Yen on April 27 to pay tribute to late General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee (CPVCC) Nguyen Van Linh on the occasion of his 20th death anniversary (April 27). Party General Secretary Nguyen Phuc Trong and former President Truong Tan Sang sent baskets of flowers to the ceremony.
