(Photo: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) – The Vietnam Prosperity Joint Stock Commercial Bank ( VPBank ) has jumped 37 spots to enter the Brand Finance’s top 250 in rankings of the world’s most valuable banks in 2021. According to the Brand Finance Banking 500 2021 ranking , VPBank ranked 243rd in banking brand value this year. Its brand value grew 41 percent to 502 million USD this year from 354 million USD in 2019. It also represents a nine-fold increase against 2016 when the bank’s brand value was first evaluated at 56 million USD. HCM City eyes 10 percent growth in export in 2021
Shrimps processed for export (Photo: VNA) HCM City (VNA) – Ho Chi Minh City ’s Department of Industry and Trade has set the target to export 48.19 billion USD worth of products in 2021, a year-on-year surge of 10 percent. Under its development plan for 2021 recently submitted to the municipal People’s Committee, the sector said import revenue is estimated at 56.47 billion USD for the whole year, up 11 percent against the previous year. Besides, it eyed to reel in more than 835.68 trillion VND (36.29 billion USD) from retail sales and services revenues in the year, up 10 percent year-on-year. The department said it will carry out necessary measures in a comprehensive fashion to branch out industry and trade, contributing to promoting economic recovery of the southern hub. Nine community cases reported in Hải Dương
Hải Dương Province started to conduct large-scale testing for the novel coronavirus, using realtime-PCR technology from Wednesday. — VNA/VNS Photo HÀ NỘI — Nine community cases of COVID-19 were reported on Wednesday evening, all in the northern province of Hải Dương. Six cases are in Kim Liên Commune, Kim Thành District which is under lockdown. Two are in Cẩm Giàng District and were previously quarantined. One case in Thanh Hà District was detected through mass screening. All of the new patients are being treated at the second field hospital of the province. An additional 30 COVID-19 patients were given the all-clear on Wednesday evening, raising the total recoveries to 1,790. The death toll remains at 35. There have been 1,504 community infections so far, of which 820 have been reported since January 27. Vietnam confirms nine new Covid-19 cases
Eight of the patients numbered 2404-2412 were already in quarantine and the ninth was detected during a province-wide testing campaign. With two cases confirmed in the morning, Hai Duong has recorded 11 cases Wednesday. The province leads in the number of community cases recorded since January 28 at 636, followed by Quang Ninh (61), Ho Chi Minh City (36) and Hanoi (35). The national Covid-19 tally stands at 2,412, with 1,790 recoveries and 35 deaths. Thirty recoveries were announced Wednesday. Most of the active patients are in stable health, with 191 having tested negative for the novel coronavirus at least once. Coffee industry seeks to weather COVID-19 crisis
Since Vietnam joined the International Coffee Organization (ICO), the coffee industry has experienced three crises, with the first occurring in 1991 when the ICO removed the quota system, causing the price of Arabica coffee to drop from US$4,000 per tonne to US$3,000 per tonne. The second happened in 2000 when the price of Robusta coffee dropped to US$400 per tonne, and the third took place last year when the price fell by between US$1,300 and US$1,400. Addressing this thorny issue, almost all coffee businesses have participated in e-commerce trading platforms, marketing the products in London and New York.
