HCMC to build seven reservoirs to tackle inundation

The construction will start now to 2020. Specifically, a reservoir in Hoang Van Thu Park in Tan Binh District could accommodate 5,000 cubic meters of rainwater. Moreover, a pumping station with capacity of 2,000 cubic meters an hour and 39 culverts will be built here to curb inundation for streets Truong Son, Tran Quoc Hoang, Phan Dinh Giot and Phan Thuc Duyen. The 20,000 cubic meter second underground reservoir, a pumping station with capacity of 4,000 cubic meters an hour and 35 culverts will be built in Flower Village Park to reduce flood for streets Nguyen Van Khoi, Le Van Tho, Pham Van Chieu in Go Vap District. Ministries to examine fire safety in high-rise buildings

The fire on March 23 killed 13 people. — VNA/VNS Photo Thành ChungViet Nam News HÀ NỘI — An inspection team consisting of officials from the ministries of construction and public security will examine fire safety measures in high buildings in seven major localities after April 15. This was announced at a meeting in Hà Nội on Thursday between the Ministry of Construction (MoC) and Ministry of Public Security (MPS) on ensuring fire prevention in high-rise buildings. Twenty-seven more communes and wards this year join family medical practice

Viet Nam News CẦN THƠ— The Department of Health in the Mekong Delta city of Cần Thơ this year plans to expand a model of family medical practice clinics to 27 more communes and wards. Family medical practice clinics aim to provide comprehensive and continuous health care services to each local individual and family in order to reduce overcrowding of patients at city or central-level hospitals. These clinics are located at health stations in communes and wards. Each commune or ward has one health station. Cần Thơ aims to equip more than 80 per cent of its 85 health stations with these clinics by 2020. According to Dr Bùi Thị Lệ Phi, the department’s head, the city now has 18 commune-based health stations with family medical practice clinics. Hanoi decides to list buildings breaking the fire code

Hanoi authorities are planning to announce the list of apartment buildings violating fire prevention and fighting regulations, following a similar move in Ho Chi Minh City. Chairman Nguyen Duc Chung assigned tasks for local authorities At the Hanoi People’s Committee’s monthly meeting yesterday, Chairman Nguyen Duc Chung assigned the Hanoi Department of Construction and Fire Prevention Department to inspect Hanoi’s apartment buildings and compile a list of violators, asking them to effect repairs immediately. According to the survey of the Hanoi Fire Prevention Department, by May 31 last year, 79 out of a total of nearly 800 apartment buildings in Hanoi violated the fire code. The leading violators include Muong Thanh Group’s 11 buildings, followed by ACC Thang Long JSC’s Artemis Trade Centre in Thanh Xuan district, and Song Da Thang Long JSC’s CT1 Usilk City building in Hadong district. Since March 24, fire-fighting police in Tân Bình District, for example, have been checking fire alarms, emergency sprinkler systems, and other fire-prevention devices at many high-rises.   In Tân Phú District, residents at the Phú Thạnh apartment building were informed about a similar check which took place from March 26 to 28. Thirty-seven storm-resistant houses handed out to coastal communities to climate

Recently, 37 houses have been built for poor households in five communes of three districts of Quang Ngai. More than 300 houses are estimated to be built in 2018. In recent years, increasing extreme weather events in Vietnam have been occurring unpredictably. Only in 2017, Vietnam suffered more than 16 typhoons, including 5 typhoons directly hit the coastal provinces. Many floods, flash floods, landslides caused more than 386 dead and missing people. Hundreds of thousands of houses were destroyed and dozens of villages were isolated by floods. Resilient-housing is one of the most effective measures to mitigate the loss of property and people in the coastal provinces. Therefore, the Prime Minister of Vietnam promulgated Decree 48 on policies to support poor households to build houses to prevent floods and storms in the central region. At least seven killed, 67 missing after quake rocks Taiwan tourist area

Rescuers combed through the rubble of collapsed buildings on Wednesday, in a search for 67 people missing after a strong earthquake which killed at leastseven near Taiwan's popular tourist city of Hualien. The magnitude 6.4 quake, which hit near the coastal city just before midnight (1600 GMT) on Tuesday, injured 260 people and caused four buildings to collapse, officials said. Hualien Mayor Fu Kun-chi said the number of people missing was now close to 60, although an exact figure was not provided. As many as 150 were initially feared missing. Many of the missing were believed to be still trapped inside buildings, some of which tilted precariously, after the quake struck about 22 km (14 miles) northeast of Hualien on Taiwan's east coast. At the city's Marshal Hotel, rescuers trying to free two trapped Taiwanese pulled one out alive, but the other person was declared dead, the government said. Drug trader’s seven-floor building in Son La destroyed

Authorities of the northern province of Son La’s Moc Chau District have decided to remove a seven-floor building built by a local drug dealer. The house was owned by Trang A Tang who was famous in the district for his wealth. He had many big houses and cars such as a Lexus and BMW. He really admired Keangnam Landmark Tower in Hanoi and wanted to copy it. Since then, the building which was not yet been completed was left abandoned.
