Singapore, Brazil agree to expand trade relations

(Photo: Straitstimes) Buenos Aires (VNA) – Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and outgoing Brazilian President Michel Temer on December 1 pledged to continue strengthening cooperation and expanding bilateral trade ties. During their meeting on the sidelines of the G20 Summit, which freshly wrapped up in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Temer informed about Brazil’s economic achievements over the past two years and said his country is preparing to welcome foreign investments through an investment partnership programme, including a number of private projects in the field of infrastructure. For his part, the Singaporean leader said Brazil is an important trade partner and a main poultry meat exporter of Singapore. At the working session with the Brazilian Ambassador, Hue expressed that Vietnam attaches importance to the role of Brazil – one of the most important trade partners of Vietnam in Latin America. The two countries have a lot to do to realise their goal of 10 billion USD in two-way trade. Poultry breeding heats up again General manager CP Vietnam Montri Suwanposri said that Vietnam’s poultry prices are closer with prices of other countries; accordingly, CP Vietnam will sell chicken to Japan after finishing paper works as per the partners’ requirement. Montri Suwanposri added that C.P in Thailand is the leading firm exporting chicken meat to Japan for years with the quantity of five million a week. There has been an increase in poutry meat orders lately because many countries banned import chicken from Brazil , an exporter of chicken to Japan, after food safety scandal. These countries switched to import chicken meat from Asian countries especially Thailand. At present, prices of poultry in hi-tech farms in Vietnam is similar to chicken prices in other Asian countries, accordingly, C.P Thailand will share its orders with Vietnamese firms and C.P Vietnam has planned to sell chicken meat to Japan in 2019. China’s trade growth cools in December

December 2017 exports rose 10.9 percent over a year earlier to $231.7 billion, down from the previous month's 12.3 percent growth, customs data showed Friday. Imports expanded 4.5 percent to $177.1 billion, down from November's 17.7 percent gain.The politically volatile global trade surplus stood at $422.5 billion, down from $486 billion in 2016.Beijing faces mounting pressure from Washington and Europe over complaints over trade barriers and that Chinese exports of unfairly low-priced steel and some other goods are threatening jobs abroad.French President Emmanuel Macron warned this week during a visit to Beijing that Chinese leaders must open their markets wider or face the risk other nations might close theirs.For its part, the government of U.S. President Donald Trump is investigating whether Beijing improperly pressures foreign companies to hand over technology.
