Nawaplastic still hungry for Binh Minh Plastic shares Owning a dominant stake in Binh Minh Plastic (BMP) did not quench Nawaplastic Industry Co., Ltd. (Nawaplastic)’s thirst for BMP shares. Most recently, Nawaplastic registered to buy an additional 1.17 million BMP shares to increase its holding to 44.525 million shares, equalling 54.39 per cent of the charter capital. The transaction is expected to occur between June18 and July16. The registered share volume is the remaining part of the 2.86 million shares that Nawaplastic failed to buy during previous transactions. Notably, Nawaplastic registered to buy 2.86 million BMP shares during transactions on May 14-June 12, however, the Thai investor ended up buying 1.69 million of the registered shares as BMP did not match Nawaplastic’s target price. US President Donald Trump announces his decision on the Iran nuclear deal in the Diplomatic Reception Room at the White House in Washington, DC. (SAUL LOEB/AFP) President Donald Trump defied the pleas of his European allies and pulled the United States out of the Iran nuclear deal on Tuesday (May 8), vowing to reimpose crippling sanctions on Tehran and warning that Iranians deserve a better government. His decision itself came as little surprise - the US leader has long scorned what he called the "disastrous" 2015 accord - but his suggestion that the regime must change underlined the risks of a dangerous new escalation in the Middle East. US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo promised that Washington will work with its friends to build a new agreement to curtail Iran's alleged quest for nuclear weapons - but there was no disguising that Trump's decision marked a stark diplomatic defeat for Europe, whose leaders had begged him to think again. "I am announcing today that the United States … [Read more...] about Trump announces US withdrawal from ‘defective’ Iran deal
Companies in Vietnam have experienced fierce competition over the last few years, both qualitative and quantitative. Many have been forced to close down while others are still in business but struggling to move forward. The question is how to make a brand not only sustainable but also grow in value in the context of fierce global competition and rapid digitalization. There are many approaches to answering this question. Here I note the three key driving forces for brands: digital transformation, globalization, and brand leadership. In my observation, these forces help grow a company’s brand value if implemented successfully. Customer-centric digital transformation Unlike in the past, customers now have many brand choices for a particular product in Vietnam. Let’s take bakery goods for example. Customers would have previously mentioned Kinh Do in the south or Hai Ha in the north, but today they may name a long list of bakery brands: Top Cake, Tous Les Jours, ABC, … [Read more...] about How best to maintain brand value?

A small village, just 90km from the capital, is famous nationwide for its three centuries of experience in the trade of crafting traditional water puppet performances. Fireworks explode with a bang and two dragons snake through the water, flames spouting from their jaws. Next comes a procession of mandarins on horseback, splashing past a group of children ooh-ing and aah-ing in unison. Mythical creatures, a frantic boat race, farmers chasing water snakes – it’s just another day in Hong Phong Village, about 90km northeast from Ha Noi in Ninh Giang District, Hai Duong Province – home to an award winning water puppet guild. Water puppetry, known as the soul of rice fields, has been part of the Vietnamese consciousness for centuries. Then, as now, the shows recounts tales of ancient folklore, as well as daily life in the fields. The idea is said to have been inspired by the annual flooding of the Hong (Red) River Delta, when religious statues floating out of the … [Read more...] about Village water puppets steal the show
by Bão Vũ Gone was the noted scholar’s day! Where does his soul now stay? (from Vũ Đình Liên’s poem Ông Đồ (Scholar) “Did anyone come to visit me when I was out, dear granny?” Nga said to her grandmother Ngân then took off her blouse and skirt before throwing them onto the armchair. “Yes, of course! A young man did, he was polite and serious,” replied the old woman. “You only pay attention to human nature. What did he look like: tall or short, handsome or unkempt?” “How silly! If you judge a man’s outward appearance, you’ll lead a miserable life.” Jumping onto her granny’s bed in her underwear, Nga hugged her tightly. “I think otherwise, granny. If I marry a serious but penniless guy, won’t I be poor my whole life? Anyway, why do you think that he looked serious?” “Because he was handsome. What’s more, he came here on an … [Read more...] about Gone the Scholar’s Day
