Vietnam women climb two places in world football rankings
They rank sixth in Asia behind Australia (7th), Japan (10th), North Korea (11st), China (15th), and South Korea (20th). The Vietnamese women's football team is currently the strongest in Southeast Asia after a hard fought win against Thailand saw them defend their gold medal at the recent SEA Games held in the Philippines. Last August, they also became the AFF champions by defeating Thailand to end the latter’s three-year reign as champions. The highest position that Vietnam's women football team have ever achieved in FIFA rankings is 28, six years ago. This is the first time the Vietnamese women wrapped up the year as No.1 in Southeast Asia after three consecutive years of standing second behind Thailand. United States partners with Vietnam’s PV Gas to define LNG standards
The U.S. Mission to Vietnam, in partnership with Petro Vietnam Gas Joint Stock Corporation (PV Gas), hosted a workshop in Ho Chi Minh City on Friday morning to discuss the adoption and application of globally recognized standards in Vietnam’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) power and infrastructure sector. The workshop brought together more than 80 public and private sector representatives from both countries to discuss best practices and opportunities to collaborate in Vietnam’s fast-growing LNG sector, the U.S. Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City said in a press release. Vietnamese scientists look to the skies with NASA on observation project
Scientists from Vietnam and NASA are working on a joint project to monitor Southeast Asian land use, local media have reported from an ongoing conference attended by 60 scientists. The “Land Use Status, Change and Impacts in Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos” project aims to build a quantitative database on land coverage and land use, and to create maps on the changing populations and the demography in the Southeast Asian nations. NASA would provide scientists with data retrieved from its satellites to help assess regional land use and its changes. Nghiem Van Son, a senior researcher from NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory at the California Institute of Technology and one of the project’s founders, said that data retrieved from satellites will help create a comprehensive picture of Vietnam’s landmass so that scientists can monitor the entire area instead of having to rely on individual reports, Vietnam News Agency reported.
