Iron and steel exports witness big leap

The nation exported a total of 1,568 million tonnes of iron and steel worth US$1.123 billion during the reviewed period, marking a sharp rise of 71.9% compared to last year’s corresponding period, according to data released by the General Department of Vietnam Customs. January saw Hoa Phat Group, the country's leading steel maker, export roughly 10,000 tonnes of galvanized sheet partners to Belgium and Spain, while it also shipped more than 12,000 tonnes of cold galvanized steel to the Americas in February. Along with construction steel, Hoa Phat Group has also ramped up its export of steel pipes, galvanized steel, and galvanized steel wire to foreign markets. Vietnam turns green light to export of medical masks to pandemic-hit countries

The Hanoitimes - The move is taken to support domestic producers in overcoming the unprecedented crisis due to the Covid-19 pandemic and these items are only allowed to export to countries heavily affected by the coronavirus. The Vietnamese government has allowed the export of medical masks, protective clothing and medical equipment, provided that domestic demand for those items is met (including for reserves), VnExpress quoted Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc as saying at a meeting on April 15. The move is taken to support domestic producers in overcoming the unprecedented crisis due to the Covid-19 pandemic and these items are only allowed to be shipped to countries affected by Covid-19. Hanoi to relocate polluting factories from downtown in 2021-25

The Hanoitimes - Hanoi has set up a list of 90 industrial establishments that have to be moved out of the inner city. In the period of 2021-2025, all polluting factories will be moved out of Hanoi’s downtown as planned, according to Director of the Hanoi Department of Construction Vo Nguyen Phong. Although the municipal People's Committee has issued guidance on the relocation of industrial facilities that are not consistent with the planning. Singapore is the world’s freest economy: Heritage Foundation

Singapore 's Marina Bay (Photo: CNN) Singapore (VNA) - Singapore's economy has been ranked the freest in the world this year in the Heritage Foundation 's 2021 Index of Economic Freedom, the second year in a row it topped the list. The city-state scored 89.7 points, with its overall score having increased by 0.3 points from 2020, primarily because of an improvement in points gained for government spending, the think-tank said on March 4. Singapore's score placed it far ahead of both the regional average for 40 countries in the Asia Pacific (60.2) and the world average (61.6). It was followed in the rankings by New Zealand, Australia, Switzerland and Ireland, in that order, with scores ranging from 83.9 (New Zealand) to 81.4 (Ireland). The US ranked 20th with a score of 74.8, and Germany was 29th with a score of 72.5. Thailand took the 42nd spot with a score of 69.7, and China was No. 107 with a score of 58.4.
