APEC Senior Officials’ Meeting promotes regional economic cooperation

At the third APEC Senior Officials' Meeting (Source: internet) Hanoi (VNA) – The third APEC Senior Officials’ Meeting took place in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, during August 4-20. The second meeting of the APEC vision group and nearly 80 dialogues and meetings of committees and working groups were held at the same time to discuss cooperation in various fields. These were some of the most important events in preparation for the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week 2018 in Port Moresby in November. The functions drew nearly 2,000 delegates from 21 APEC economies.  Representatives from Vietnam’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Industry and Trade, Ministry of National Defence, Ministry of Planning and Investment, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Ministry of Health, and the Government Inspectorate participated in the events and made active contributions. NA Chairwoman receives WB Vice President for East Asia & Pacific

The host highly valued the WB’s role and activities in Vietnam, stressing that it is an important development partner and policy advisor of the Vietnamese Government, greatly helping with local socio-economic development. Australian gov’t considers Vietnam one of partners in Asia Pacific

During their talks in Hanoi on May 28, FM Bishop added the government wants to further bolster the relations both in bilateral framework and at regional and global forums. CPTPP facilitates cooperation in Asia-Pacific region

After the United States officially withdrew from the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) on January 30, 2017, the remaining 11 countries have continued to push forward and reach an agreement on a new name for the TPP agreement, which is the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP). Basically, the CPTPP preserves the content of the TPP but allows the member states to temporarily postpone a number of obligations in order to ensure a balance in the new context. This has been resolved through the commitments made in texts, annexes and bilateral agreements, concerning each country’s own interests which will be signed when the CPTPP is officially signed. Therefore, the new CPTPP will be more appropriate to the countries’ enforcement capabilities in the new context. Asia-Pacific parliaments backs regional economic-trade cooperation

The issue, among the topics put forth by the host Vietnam in the agenda of the freshly-ended 26th Annual Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF-26) were applauded by delegations from the participating members and considered as a goal for the APPF’s future affairs. The forum works towards the aim of building trust among member parliaments via the enhancement of dialogues between parliamentarians in the Asia-Pacific region, thereby contributing to maintaining peace, stability, sustainable development and prosperity for the whole region. Parliament role promoted in Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum

Head of the National Assembly’s Committee on Foreign Affairs Nguyen Van Giau told a media conference in Hanoi on Wednesday that the Vietnamese National Assembly has proposed a draft APPF Hanoi Declaration- New vision for the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Partnership. Mr. Giau said that if approved, the declaration will be an important result to mark APPF’s 25th founding anniversary. Vietnam ready for 26th Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum meeting
