ASEAN, Canada, UN Women advance women’s role in conflict prevention

At the launch of the “Empowering women for sustainable peace: preventing violence and promoting social cohesion in ASEAN” (Photo: asean.org) Jakarta (VNA) - The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Canada and UN Women recently launched a five-year programme to expand and strengthen women’s leadership and participation in conflict prevention, resolution and recovery in Southeast Asia. HCM City to relocate water supply sources amid worsening water pollution HCM City authorities plan to gradually relocate its water supply sources further upstream of the Sài Gòn and Đồng Nai rivers as part of its effort to ensure clean water for local use. Experts have warned that the current main source of water has become seriously polluted due to the impact of socio-economic development along the Sài Gòn – Đồng Nai river system.  The city currently draws some 94 per cent of the water for treatment at a spot downstream of where the Sài Gòn River meets the Đồng Nai River, at the Hòa Phú pumping station in its Củ Chi District, and at Hóa An in Đồng Nai Province. Qualtrics’ Employee Experience Trends reveals ‘belonging’ key to employee engagement in Singapore in 2021

Annual report finds top engagement drivers shifted significantly during 2020SINGAPORE - Media OutReach - 8 February 2021 - New research released today by Qualtrics, the leader in employee experience (EX) and creator of the experience management (XM) category, has revealed significant shifts to the drivers of employee engagement in Singapore in 2021.   According to the 2021 Singapore Employee Experience Trends Report, four of the top five employee engagement drivers changed over the last year. Creating a sense of belonging, and continually improving ways of working emerged as the top two drivers of employee engagement. Govn’t urges finalization of VAMC operational procedures in July

The government has asked relevant state agencies to speed up their work on completing the operational procedures for the Vietnam Assets Management Co (VAMC) so that the firm can become fully operational this month . The national asset management company, which is being set up to shore up the local banking system, which is choked by bad debts, had previously been planned to come online on Tuesday (July 9). The state-run firm, which has VND500 billion ($24 million) worth of chartered capital, is expected to buy as much bad debt as it can to relieve the burden of local banks. By helping boost bank lending, growth of which was stuck at 4.5 percent in the first half of this year, VAMC will indirectly spur the country’s economic growth, which is still lagging behind its, at 4.9 percent. In a report aired last week, JPMorgan estimated that the introduction of the VAMC will be a positive step in helping to reform the banking system and unfreeze credit flows in Vietnam. Young people join hands to keep Central Highlands green Young people in HCM City take part in a project to plant trees in Đắk Nông Province. — Photo sggp.org.vn Tree-planting projects to protect the environment have become increasingly popular among young people from HCM City. Their projects have not only contributed to increasing forest coverage on barren hills but also brought economic benefits to local people. The project 'Garden-Forest' was launched by JOY (Journey Of Youth) - a volunteer group in collaboration with the group named 'Planting one million trees per year' and Bù Gia Mập National Park to plant trees on farmers' land in Central Highlands provinces. The volunteers have also worked with agricultural experts to teach organic farming techniques to farmers, helping them have a stable income.
