Binh Dinh to deal with river encroachment
On January 13, Party Secretary of Binh Dinh Province Ho Quoc Dung, Chairman of Binh Dinh People's Committee Nguyen Phi Long and leaders of related departments inspected the Dinh River in Quy Nhon City in preparation for the flood prevention project. A 3km-section of Dinh River will be upgraded to increase its drainage capacity and this section runs through many residential clusters. Those households have encroached on the Dinh River for years, narrowing the river and affecting its drainage capacity. In order to carry out the flood prevention project, about 280 households must be relocated and the river bank must be repaired. The authorities must also dredge the river. Quy Nhon City People's Committee will be responsible for organising the resettlement areas and compensation fund. The Binh Dinh People's Committee will be responsible for the funding of the construction and any renovation.
