Following the U.S.’s request, the Ministry of Finance has submitted to the government proposed changes to the decree on preferential import and export tariffs. According to the ministry, the U.S. has asked for reducing the import taxes on chicken, chicken products, almond, apple, fresh grape, wheat, pork, and potato. They are now at around 20 percent, and the U.S. wants the import tax on chicken and chicken products scrapped by 2028, on pork by 2027, apple and grape by 2020, and wheat and processed potato by 2021. The ministry is considering the demand since it could help reduce Vietnam’s trade surplus with the U.S. But the cuts are unlikely to be as deep as the U.S. wants and would only match the tax cuts proposed under the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP). The ministry would finalize the rates following consultation with other ministries and agencies. In the first 10 months this year, the U.S. was Vietnam’s largest export … [Read more...] about Vietnam mulls reducing import taxes on US agricultural products

US opens doors wider for Vietnamese farm produce
The US Embassy in Hanoi recently opened the new office of the US Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) in the capital. With this office, which is considered an important step toward boosting US-Vietnamese agricultural co-operation, Vietnamese exporters and authorised US agencies will be able to save lots of time and costs when conducting sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) inspections to protect against potential plant pest risks from Vietnamese agricultural products exported to the US. APHIS' Hanoi office will help boost Vietnam's farm produce exports to the US In the past, in order to export fruit to the US, the produce first had to undergo an SPS examination in the US. “The APHIS Hanoi office maintains technical working relations with its Vietnamese counterparts to resolve SPS issues whenever they arise,” said the embassy’s statement on the establishment of the office. “The regulatory mission of … [Read more...] about US opens doors wider for Vietnamese farm produce
Vietnam wants more northern border gates to process fruit exports to China
The Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) will negotiate with Chinese authorities to allow goods to pass through hitherto unused border gates in the northern province of Lang Son, like Chi Ma, Na Hinh and Binh Nghi, in order to resolve congestion at the Tan Thanh border gate, said Tran Thanh Hai, deputy director of the ministry’s Import and Export Department. On Wednesday morning, in a meeting with Chinese Ambassador to Vietnam Xiong Bo and Yunnan Province’s Party Committee Deputy Secretary Wang Yobo, Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue had mentioned the difficulties Vietnamese exporters have been facing at the border, and asked China to help resolve the issue. For his part, Wang Yobo said that the southern Chinese province wants to raise bilateral trade turnover with Vietnam, and stands ready to purchase Vietnamese farm … [Read more...] about Vietnam wants more northern border gates to process fruit exports to China
Vietnam exports milk to China for the very first time
Tuesday's shipment of pasteurized fresh milk produced by Vietnamese dairy firm TH True Milk followed a deal signed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) and China Customs in April this year. TH True Milk is the first Vietnamese dairy producer to have approval for exports to China. Vinamilk, Moc Chau Milk, Nutifood and Hanoimilk are awaiting similar approval, according to the agriculture ministry. China, with a population of more than 1.4 billion, has a huge demand for milk and milk products, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Xuan Cuong said at the ceremony launching Vietnam’s first milk shipment to China on Tuesday. China has the highest milk consumption in the world, with a total value of $60 billion, but domestic supply only meets 75 percent of demand. China Customs issued an official announcement on October 16 allowing the import of heat treated dairy products from Vietnam, including different types of pasteurized milk, milk powder, … [Read more...] about Vietnam exports milk to China for the very first time
Customers’ preference helps Vietnamese foods foray deeper into Thai market
The Tops Market supermarket chain, which has 10 outlets in Bangkok, imports about 500 items from Vietnam, with instant pho and coffee the best selling goods. "Our imports from Vietnam rise about 10 percent a year. Pho has a similar flavor to Thai traditional noodles therefore it is easily accepted. Vietnamese dragon fruits are sweeter than that of Thailand and thus sell well," Pimjai Navanukroh, director of the chain, said at a recent event. A Tops Market outlet in Huai Khwang District to the east of central Bangkok sells 100-200 Vietnamese instant noodles packs and 50 kilograms of Vietnamese dragon fruits a day. "I usually buy Vietnamese foods, especially coffee because of its distinct flavor and reasonable price," said Pumipat Chaisom, a customer at the supermarket. Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Do Thang Hai said that the export of agriculture and food products to Thailand has seen positive growth in recent years despite strong competition from domestic … [Read more...] about Customers’ preference helps Vietnamese foods foray deeper into Thai market
