Despite taking a first half-lead, Thanh Hóa couldn’t hold on for all three points and a winning start to the season. On 66 minutes the visitors equalised through Victor Mansaray, capitalising on a mistake in the Thanh Hóa defence. This was a debut goal for the striker from Sierra Leone who joined Bình Dương from Charleston Battery in the US. Not only was it a debut goal for the forward, it was also a late birthday present. Earlier this month he turned 21. At the weekend Bình … [Read more...] about Thanh Hòa vs Bình Dương opens V.League with 1-1 score

The Vietnam National University-Hanoi will accept admissions based on SAT results in the new school year, making it the first university in the country to recognize the American assessment test. The university said on Thursday that students applying to the school this year will be able to submit their Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) results for the first time, besides the usual high school graduation results, tests based on their majors and A-Levels approved by Cambridge International Examinations. The SAT is a standardized test introduced in 1926 and widely used for college admissions in the U.S., and assesses reading, writing and math skills. Most departments at the Hanoi school will accept SAT results to assess English competency, it said. The university, one of the biggest in Vietnam, plans to enroll more than 8,500 students this year, and is set to open new courses on space technology, robotics, German and school administration. The Vietnam National University – Hanoi announced its admission policy for 2018 on Thursday, in which performance in the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) is also utilized as the standard for selecting students. Officials of the university in Hanoi, which is one of the most prestigious universities in the country, said that the higher education institution will use the SAT results to choose its candidates for the 2018 entrance, becoming the first educational institution nationwide to embrace the SAT. This can be regarded as part of the effort to improve the accuracy in assessing student ability for undergraduate training – something that Vietnam’s Ministry of Education and Training has hitherto tried to do of little avail. As in last year, the admission to the institution also takes into account the valid results from one of the following tests: the previous year’s national high-school graduation exam, the university’s own … [Read more...] about Vietnamese collegiate university becomes first nationwide to consider SAT scores for admission

Metallic coins with Bitcoin logos are joining the popular chocolate coins as alternatives to cash given away in red envelopes known as li xi, or lucky money, to children during Tet, the biggest festival of the year in Vietnam, which will fall in mid February. For the past few months, online shops in Vietnam have been importing coins bearing the Bitcoin logo to sell for VND80,000 ($3.5) to serve the rising demand for the currency that has helped many miners strike it rich following its boom in recent months. Bitcoin, the biggest and best-known cryptocurrency, rose around twentyfold last year, climbing from less than $1,000 to nearly $20,000, a record level which has been attributed to surging demand in China, where authorities say it is being used to channel money out of the country. A seller named … [Read more...] about Coining it in: Bitcoin vs lucky money for Lunar New Year in Vietnam
