A ceremony marking the 25th anniversary of its route to Russia was held on the occasion of the official visit to Russia by General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee Nguyen Phu Trong. Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Tuan Anh highly appreciated the carrier’s effort in establishing a bridge of cooperation in various fields of economy, science, education, culture and tourism between the two countries. The agreement came as part of a long-term contract inked between the two firms on August 16, which is expected to back Vietnam Airlines’ effort to improve technical efficiency and ensure safety for its flights. Per the deal, Lufthansa Technik AG will provide maintenance services for ten APUs of the carrier’s fleet of A350-900 wide-body aircraft from 2018 to 2020. Customers of Vietnam Airlines will soon use QR Code to buy tickets. Customers can use various applications – including Momo and Moca – mobile banking, and Internet banking to pay for their tickets, along with the more traditional methods on their website or through travel agents. Through the expansion of its payment methods, the national flag carrier has become a pioneer in technology application in the country. Vietnam Airlines, AFI sign Boeing maintenance contract
Vietnam Airlines Corporation and Air France Industries KLM Engineering and Maintenance (AFI KLM E&M) signed a long-term flight hour support contract for maintenance of Boeing 787-9 in Paris on Monday. The contract, worth more than US$500 million, was signed in the presence of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and President of the National Assembly of France Francois de Rugy. The contract is part of the framework to commemorate the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Viet Nam and France. Under the contract, AFI KLM E&M will oversee the maintenance of 20 GEnx engines, including 16 engines for eight operating planes and four others for reserve, for 12 years. The firm will also provide access to spare engines for Vietnam Airlines to guarantee seamless continuity in its operations. The first flight on the Nha Trang - Seoul route departs from Cam Ranh Airport in the southern province of Khanh Hoa. National carrier Vietnam Airlines early this week opened a new route between Nha Trang and Seoul with two flights, numbered VN440 and VN441. The flights will connect Cam Ranh Airport in the southern province of Khanh Hoa and Incheon Airport in Seoul.
