A number of tour operators have organized trips which facilitate individuals planting trees upon traveling in Hoi An City, located in the central Vietnamese province of Quang Nam, to fight climate change. In mid-December, a group of 100 tourists went on a tour in Hoi An which included cycling in the countryside, a marathon, and a visit to Bay Mau coconut forest in Cam Thanh Commune. When in Cam Thanh, each tourist planted a small tree, which had been donated by local travel firms and people. Many similar tree-planting tours have been organized at the Bay Mau coconut forest, according to chairman of the Quang Nam Tourism Association Phan Xuan Thanh. “The last disastrous year clearly proved the fragility of human life," said Le Quoc Viet, a hotelier on Hoi An’s famous An Bang beach who together with a number of other tour operators have been organizing such tree-planting trips across Quang Nam. Travel firms shift to new strategies to overcome pandemic crisis
While many travel firms and hotels have gone bankrupt or are idle, others have been thriving thanks to new business strategies and creative products. Visits to historical sites, especially prisons, always leave a strong impression on visitors, and sometimes, fear. However, the Hoa Lo Prison site has recently attracted a high number of visitors, many of them young people and primary school students. Some of them have visited a second time. Vaccine ‘passport’ could help save tourism
Large-scale Covid-19 vaccinations are expected to help restore travelers’ confidence, loosen travel restrictions and normalize tourism activities. The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) January 2021 report showed that the world underwent the biggest crisis in history in 2020 because of the Covid-19 pandemic with the number of international travelers droppef by 73.9 percent compared with 2019, equal to the figure of 30 years ago. There were only 381 million international travelers in 2020 compared with 1 billion in 2019. This was attributed to the sharp fall in travel demand and the travel restrictions imposed by governments in an efforts to stop the spread of the virus. The 73.9 percent decrease stands between the second (- 70 percent) and third (- 78 percent) scenarios forecasted by UNWTO in May 2020. The decline in the number of international visitors has caused international tourism export value to lose about $1.3 trillion, or 11 times higher than damage caused by the … [Read more...] about Vaccine ‘passport’ could help save tourism
