Struggle for AO/dioxin victims in Vietnam endures

The trial held in the Crown Court of Evry city (Photo: VNA) Paris (VNA) – Significant attention has been paid to a hearing on January 25 for a trial brought by Vietnamese-French woman Tran To Nga against the US companies that provided the chemical toxins used by the US Army in the war in Vietnam. At the trial, held in the Crown Court of Evry city in the suburbs of Paris, lawyers for the defendants spent more than four hours arguing for their clients, which are 17 chemical producers from the US, including Monsanto (acquired by the German group Bayer in 2018) and Dow Chemical, while Nga’s three lawyers had only one and a half hours. Lawyers William Bourdon, Amelie Lefebvre, and Bertrand Repolt have stood side-by-side with Nga for more than 10 years. In 2009, she testified for Agent Orange (AO)/dioxin victims in Vietnam at the International People’s Tribunal of Conscience, in Paris. In 2013, the Crown Court of Evry accepted her lawsuit and one year later she received notice of the first procedural hearing, with 19 US chemical companies to stand trial.
