The incident, widely covered in social and mainstream media, has drawn widespread criticism, and also has stolen the spotlight at discussions on the sidelines of the ongoing National Assembly sitting in Hanoi. All are of the opinion that tough sanctions must be taken against the man, a police officer of Pho Yen Town of Thai Nguyen Province. Video footage at Hai Dang rest stop in Pho Yen Town shows how the man, later identified as Senior Lieutenant Nguyen Xo Viet of Pho Yen Town’s police division, instructed his son to enter a shop to take food.
