Manchester United are reportedly close to appointing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as their interim manager to replace Jose Mourinho who was sacked on Tuesday. The club appeared to ‘confirm’ Solskjaer’s appointment last night with a since-deleted video on their website describing their former striker as ‘our interim manager’. Norwegian prime minister Erna Solberg also all but confirmed Solskjaer’s status as United’s new interim coach on her Twitter page. Ms Solberg wrote: “Great day for Norwegian football. Good luck keeping control of the Red Devils, @ olegs26_ole.” Mourinho was sacked yesterday morning after Sunday’s defeat at Liverpool, and leaves after two-and-a-half years at Old Trafford. Former assistant manager Mike Phelan has been tipped to resume his old role. After United confirm their interim manager, they will begin searching for a permanent successor for Mourinho to take over in the summer.
