Vietnamese laborers in South Korea and Japan report highest incomes – PHOTO: THANH HOA HCMC – Vietnamese workers in South Korea and Japan earn US$1,000-1,200 per month on average, the highest among the Vietnamese people working overseas, news site VnEconomy reported, citing a report by the National Assembly’s Social Affairs Committee. According to the report on Vietnamese workers abroad in the 2010-2017 period and foreigners working in Vietnam between 2013 and 2017, Vietnamese working abroad had higher incomes than their peers working at home. The average income of Vietnamese guest workers was between US$400 and US$600 per month in the Middle East and between US$700 and US$800 per month in Taiwan. The report also showed that nearly 821,900 domestic laborers went abroad for guest work under employment contracts in the 2010-2017 period. Since 2014, Vietnam has annually sent more than 102,000 workers abroad. The number of Vietnamese guest workers has surged in foreign markets offering high incomes, such as Japan (up 461% between 2013 and 2017), Taiwan (up 183%) and the Middle East (up 120%). Of these, Taiwan employed the highest number of Vietnamese workers.
