Cement exports exceed target The Saigon Times Daily Workers are seen inside a cement plant – PHOTO: TL HCMC – Vietnam saw September’s cement exports rocketing by 43% year-on-year to an estimated 2.2 million tons, the Government news website reported. Data from the Building Materials Department under the Ministry of Construction shows that total cement consumption picked up 14% in September year-on-year to 7.88 million tons, with the domestic market accounting for 5.68 million tons, up a mere 3% against September 2017. Of the volume, Vietnam Cement Industry Corporation alone consumed an estimated 2.03 million tons. Cement consumption was reported at a cumulative 72.82 million tons over the first nine months, rising a staggering 38% year-on-year and meeting 85% of the year’s target. Some 49.54 million tons was consumed domestically, while exports reached 23.28 million tons. As such, the country’s outbound cement sales have surpassed the export target of 18-19 million tons year-to-date.
