Disabled athletes join sixth National Para Games By Le Lam Disabled athletes play a badminton match in the ongoing sixth National Para Games – PHOTO: LE LAM HCMC – About 1,300 disabled athletes from 29 of the nation’s 63 cities and provinces are competing in the sixth National Para Games which was inaugurated at Tien Son Sports Arena in Danang on July 9. The event is jointly held by the General Department of Sports and Physical Training, Vietnam Paralympic Association, and Danang Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism. It features nine sports including track and field, swimming, table tennis, weightlifting, chess, badminton, boccia, judo and tennis, with more than 700 medals. The National Para Games is aimed to promote friendship and solidarity among persons with disabilities, integrate them into society, and select excellent disabled athletes for the national team to compete in the third Asian Para Games which is slated for mid-October 2018 in Jakarta, Indonesia. The closing ceremony will be held on July 13.
