Party chief Nguyen Phu Trong is optimistic about national development in 2018. The Party leader made the statement at a meeting held on the occasion of the traditional Tet holiday at the Presidential Palace, Hanoi, on Tuesday. Mr. Trong reviewed Vietnam’s achievements over the past year across all fields, with each of the 13 set targets fulfilled or surpassed for the first time after many years. He highlighted the country’s GDP growth rate of 6.81 percent, macro-economic stability, curbed inflation and low budget overspending, adding that the total export-import revenue hit the record high of 425 billion USD. The Party leader stressed that 2018 is a decisive year in implementing the five-year development plan leading up to 2020. “It’s important to fine-tune the socialist-oriented market economic institutions, create more remarkable changes in economic restructuring in combination with growth model reform, and improving productivity and economic competitiveness. It’s necessary to boost cultural and social development, improve people’s lives, strengthen national security, social order and safety, proactively prevent plots and sabotage activities of hostile forces. We need more efforts in building a pure, strong, effective Party and political system and resolve to combat corruption, wastefulness and other bad deeds,” Mr. Trong noted.
