Instagram today revealed that it now has 90 million monthly active users, which is up 10 percent from December. The data was posted on Instagram’s press page. The Facebook-owned company also revealed that 40 million photos are posted to the photo-sharing site every day, while people are “liking” 8,500 photos per second. Instagram was already popular before Facebook dropped a reported $1 billion for the photo site. It reached one million users six weeks after launch, and in May 2011 – seven months after its debut – Instagram CEO Kevin Systrom revealed that the app had 4.25 million users. But now it’s playing in the big leagues with 90 million people snapping filtered shots of their dinner, pets, and whatever else comes into view. Amidst all that growth, however, Instagram faced one of its first major PR snafus late last year, thanks to an ill-conceived terms of service update.
