Nhan Dan Online – The National Futsal champion team, Thai Son Nam, is scheduled to compete in the 2013 AFC Futsal Club Championships to be held in Malaysia from April 11-16.
Vietnam will vie with six other teams of the East and Southeast Asian zone qualifiers to earn one of three berths to the finals tournament in Nagoya, Japan to be held from June 23- 29.
Thai Son Nam is in a group with Pelindo FC (Indonesia) and Dural Warriors (Australia). The four teams in the other group include GH Bank Rbac (Thailand), Shenzen Nanling Tielang FC (China), Pasargad (Philippines) and Tainan City (Taiwan-China). All of the teams will compete in a round robin format to decide the top three teams that will advance to the finals.
The three best placed teams at the 2012 AFC Futsal Club Championships, including teams from Iran, Uzbekistan, and 2013 hosts Japan, received automatic byes to the finals. The two remaining slots will be decided in the South and Central Asian zone qualifier tournaments.
This is the second times the team has participated in the tournament and this is the only Vietnamese team to have won the right to play in the final round. Last year, Thai Son Nam made it through to the 2012 Asian Futsal Club Championships final round following its second rankings in the East and Southeast Asian zone qualifiers.
