HCM CITY (VNS)- Mua Yeu Dau (First Season of Love), composed and performed by young singer Dinh Manh Ninh, has won the Song of the Year contest for 2012.
The announcement was made at the awards ceremony held for the Bai Hat Viet competition in HCM City on Sunday evening.
A native of Bac Giang Province in the north, 24-year-old Ninh is a member of the boy music band M4U. He had won first prize at the Pepsi Talent Show Viet Nam 2009. A high honours graduate from the Ha Noi Arts College in 2010, he is one of the favourite young singers in the country.
At the awards ceremony, other young singers and musicians were also honoured.
Female songwriter Huyen Sambi was presented with the Promising Songwriter award for Troi (Drifting) which also won her the Song Voted by Journalists.
The Most Favourite Song voted by the audience was composer Pham Hai Au’s Nguoi Em Yeu Mai (The Man that I’ll Love Forever) that was performed by Ngoc Anh who was honoured as the audience’s most favourite singer.
The song voted for by the producers was Cuoi Duong (At the End of the Road).
Cadillac, the band that has participated in most Bai Hat Viet contests since its inception eight years ago, received a Dedication Award.
All 15 songs that made it to the final night of the Vietnamese Song 2012 contest were penned by new, young songwriters. They were the best of 54 songs introduced in six shows last year. VNS
